Re: New Kurland Pocket book.

Hello Mr. Wade, I am definitely interested in buying a copy of your interesting sounding book and tried to order a copy via: http://publish-phdbookbinding.com. Unfortunately the costs for shipping the book to Germany are unacceptably (to me) high, with roughly 120 USD (as opposed to the prize of the...

How about number of trains in total, number of trains already arrived/still on the way/not departed yet, transport time in days?

You can download nearly all FMS studies from www.footnote.com, once you get an account there (but you have to pay for the account).

Re: Battleground Prussia Book ?

Who can blame the Russians for exacting what they believed was appropriate revenge? The Germans were lucky that all of their officers were not shot out of hand upon the conclusion of the war as Stalin is reportedly to have advocated. My dear, is this seriously your opinion? Seems too bad to me you ...

Re: Writer "Antony Beevor"

Ricardo, at least here in Finland the so called "new military history" which basically means social history and gender history is an arena that is 99.9% dominated by leftist-green females or leftist-green males who have lost their balls. To this group proper military history is out of fas...

Re: kursk

There were no any units from VVS of PVO (air defence) in the area of battle. May be, but aircraft of neighbouring fronts took part in the battle as well. Units of ADD (aviation of long-range action) are reserves of Stavka. Exactly. And as such, not included in the fronts' strength figures. SP guns ...

Re: Prinz Eugen supports Panzervervand Strachwitz II at Tukkum

This was operation "Doppelkopf", named after a popular card play.

Gerd Niepold has written a good book about that operation (in German).

Re: kursk

Luftwaffe personnel on Eastern front was roughly 500,000 (I do have some exact figures) at the end of 1942 (including not only Luftwaffe soldiers of all kinds, but also suppoorting Org. Todt and RAD personnel, as well as Luftwaffe field division soldiers (which are already counted in most army perso...

Re: Prinz Eugen supports Panzervervand Strachwitz II at Tukkum

IIRC, there is a short description of the support mission in the book "Abwehrkämpfe am Nordflügel der Ostfront". It mentions that Prinz Eugen's shooting was rated as relatively accurate, one of the destroyers was rated excellent, while another one was rated very inaccurate.

Re: A couple of excellent imminent Ostfront books

Stupid me.
In this case it is of course another matter, though I have not read Kershaw's book.
I have yet to be convinced of the value of Erickson, though.

Re: A couple of excellent imminent Ostfront books

Surely I do not want to defend stuff like that what Mr. Mosier writes, but as surely I do not see anything at all that would make e.g. Mr. Kershaw's writing on the Eastern front worthwhile to read, while Mr. Erickson IMHO signs responsible for some of the most serious distortions in any books writte...

Re: They're Coming! (Spoiler alert!)

Kudos, and happy birthday!

Eagerly awaiting the announced books, as I much liked "Fire brigades" and there is a deplorable paucity of serious studies of the last phase of the eastern front in WW2.

Re: David Stahel - Operation Barbarossa & Germany's Defeat

Hello Panzermahn, please do not - it is still a very information rich book, the author clearly knows his sources well and presents a lot of detail. I certainly learned a lot. My critical remarks on hist style and perspective are anyway all for my own taste. Also, reading an author with differing poi...

Re: David Stahel - Operation Barbarossa & Germany's Defeat

I do have it. The good thing of the book is that after an outline of the campaign's planning it provides a lot of primary sourced material, which allows to look at the operations of army group center and especially panzer groups 2 and 3 from the start of the operation through the Bialystok-Minsk and...

Re: A couple of excellent imminent Ostfront books

how does he substantiate selection of units? Have not seen the book yet, but in the original project description ("Wehrmacht in der nationalzozialistischen Diktatur", which can be found somewhere on the net) it was stated that the selection of units of different combat capability and also...
