Re: The 713th Armor Battalion in Okinawa.
It's great that you are interested in the armor of the Pacific War. The role of tanks in the Pacific is often overlooked, and even more so is the fact that Army units of many types were often attached to Marine units in many of the war's campaigns.

Thanks for that anecdote, Kafka! Here are a couple more stories for today: "VB-Feldpost #3, page 88, "More is Better," by Ogefr. Paul Greikamp. It was near the start of the campaign in the East.Out of a clear blue sky, we began taking heavy incoming artillery fire. Sadly, some of our ...

Re: German Movies
The novel "08/15" by Hans Helmut Kirst was turned into a movie of the same name in 1955 or so. It is a satirical look at life in the German army in 1938. The novel is an amazing book, and the movie version is definitely worth watching.

Re: Humor in the Wehrmacht
Hi Jonathon: I thought about that too, and considered changing the ranges from the original story when I translated it. I decided to leave the ranges exactly as they were in German. A thousand meters is an awful long way over iron sights, even for an expert marksman.

“Lachendes Feldgrau,” pages 7-9, The Wet Overcoat It was a stormy day, and the rain poured down, sleeting across the fields. Re: Veterans Day
Certainly, everyone has the freedom to remember whomever they want to at any time of the year. Not to be crotchety or anything (but I did turn 50 in September.) Veterans Day in the US is for America's veterans. Germany has a holiday established to honor and remember the fallen warriors who died in i...
