Re: Hitler, Doeniz and the Baltic Sea: Third Reich's Last Hope

Gentlemen,

Does Dr Grier make any mention on Kapitan Gerhard von Kamptz in his book regarding German activity/ strategy in the Baltic? (Iam considering this book and have a very narrow interest)

Thanks

Re: 1945 Waffen-SS Divisions & the SD

"The Nibelungen Division took in whatever could be found from the SS in southwest Germany. It was based on the staff and students at Bad Tölz as its cadre, and it had young students from "an Adolf Hitler school" as the mass of its infantry. I would assume a NAPOLA is what is referred ...

Re: Germanische Officer Courses at Bad Tölz

Yes, I second the thanks!

I am quite surprised by the rather advanced age of some of these Junkers, perhaps they were formally officers of other militaries and given laterals ?

Gebirgsjaeger, Thank you for this interesting bit of information regarding Bad Tolz. The Junkerschule / former Flint Kaserne is a topic of very much recurrent interest to many of us here: historically, architecturally and biographically (and to a lesser degree the Prinz Heinrich Kaserne). May I reco...

Gentlemen, This was discussed, in a somewhat unfinished fashion, recently in the thread: 'Where to get Foreign Military Studies', Unit Histories, FpNs,OoBs, 17 Sept 03. I have finally seemingly made contact with the MHI....More to follow..... Additionally, regarding Dr RHS Stolfi, File, while not in...

Jerry,

Thanks for the response.

I'll stay with it for a few more attempts. The system, if worked as it describes itself show great promise.

Gentlemen, Thank you both. Jerry, yes I have seen, and attempted to communicate/order docs via, the USAMHI website. It has proven to be quite cumbersome thus far. Has it been responsive to you ? In my time-consuming efforts I bumbled upon the CATS system. CATS not only listed the exact document whic...

Gentlemen, Pardon me for jumping in. Have any of you any experience attempting to order a document from USAMHI utilizing their CATS system ? I have located a Foreign Military Studies document which CATS states as 'available'. Have any of you been successful in obtaining a document in this fashion ? ...

I thought Springer was an adjutant to GFM Model not "personlicher Adjutant des Fuhrers und Reichskanzlers"?

Yes, I was at Saumur a few months ago and can confirm that the Tigers I (narrow track) and Tiger II are there. The Tiger II, Panther etc are in operable condition along with practically an entire inventory of German WWII Armored Fighting vehicles. Additionally, in answer to questions on a related th...

Well kind of.... As of a month ago, major portions remain standing and major portions have been demolishished. The 10th SFG departed in 1995 and the 'Flint Kaserne' was abandonded basically intact until two years ago. In a seemingly architecturally nonsensical 'renovation' the Bavarian state governm...

FWIW, I was walking through the Catholic cemetary overlooking Bad Tolz just this April and former Junkerschule Commanding Officer Werner Doerffler-Schuband's grave was pointed out to me. I seem to recall he died in 1956. Not sure if he was a good Catholic throughout, or if he later 're-found' religi...
