Re: Who Needs a Publisher?

I don't buy this 'don't want/need the money' argument. Why would you put all that effort in just to see someone else (potentially) make money out of your work..why not try dealing with the bookstores direct...there can't be that many of them been badly 'burnt' by a (so-called) 'professional' publish...

Re: Black Cross/ REd Star

no BC/RS is no more - author Bergstrom produced the 4-vol Barbarossa series for Classic Pubs. Vol 1 is essentially an up-dated and largely re-written version of BC/RS 1. I copy-edited the text for the publisher.

Re: Schäufler - 35th Panzer Regiment History

.. picked up a copy of Schäufler's original German edition too this year ...and discovered that Kurowski had already lifted some lengthy passges from it for his Panzer Aces titles

Re: Review: Graf & Grislawski

..indeed, just one of countless examples - that particular example being one of the more hilarious. Although the review does mention the irritation of having to re-read passages to make sense of them I was surprised the indifferent English wasn't mentioned in the review, ruins the book for me....in ...

Gastolli wrote:The authors both are relatives of former members of this unit, so that's the reason you have an german (off course) and an french edition.
Heinrich Warnick was a Panther commander at Kolomak with SS-Pz.Rgt 2 and his experiences were featured in Heimdal's 39-45 magazine (July-August 2007)

Re: Review: Graf & Grislawski

Title: Graf & Grislawski Some of the air battle descriptions make the reader feel they are in the cockpit of the planes flown they are that well written. ..the text wasn't proofed or corrected ..and that makes for some horrible passages, Graf at one point bailing out and "losing his consci...

Re: Third Reich At War by Richard J. Evans

...have to agree entirely ..just read the chapter on the Battle of Britain (one of Evans's key turning points) - amateurish analysis, " Hitler's first defeat ". Large chunks of the book as pointed out are intensely annoying - "The Stormer" ..is that a word in English ? despite th...

Re: Breslau 1945

..I don't accept that 'Panzer' has been 'loaned' to the English language...we know its the German for 'tank', simple as that. Its not a foreign word like 'restaurant' or 'menu' for which we have no better English equivalent. Simply put, the word 'Panzers' is not a 'proper' word! Its not the correct ...

Re: Breslau 1945

The mention of 'Panzerfaust bazookas' made me raise an eyebrow, but I suppose that it's not so bad if they're referred to as plain 'old Panzerfausts for the rest of the book. ". ..that's the point of the additional word for the writer/translator...because the "s" is very rarely a plu...

while we're on the subject..I'm intrigued by J-H's " bunch of books on the subject for 40 euros" - what can you recommend that is reasonably priced and currently available in German, ie not Le Tissier (English) or "Bloody Streets.." (far too expensive). Typing in 'Endkampf' on am...

if its anything like the 'In focus' publications then the, er.., focus, is purely on the images. Presumably this is a bi-lingual German/English publication too..more wasted space
