hi The Hungarian W-SS troops were formed to fight exlusively against the Red Army: Die freiwillige Meldung verpflichtet nur zum Dienst in dieser Division. Da die Division prinzipiell nur zur Verteidigung des ungarischen Vaterlandes eingesetzt wird, sollen alle Kommandeure ihren Einfluß dahin geltend...

Re: 31. SS Freiwilge Division?

hi, was the 31.SS Freiwilge Division made of Czechs or what? hi, unfortunately that is absolutely false, see Pencz, Rudolf: For the Homeland! The History of the 31st Waffen-SS Volunteer Grenadier Division Solihull, UK: Helion & Company, 2002 75% of the enl. men were volksdeutsche from Bácska (~...

Re: landwehr

Landwehr was a pioneer for presenting material on the more obscure units of the SS. But the more I actually acquire German-language material on these units, the more I realize that he often was merely the translator of German-language secondary works that he failed to credit as the original source....

Maybe some artillery units were attached but perhaps not in under-regimental level. So possibly you are right :)

If I am right: SS II/61 is - SS unit - II. Battalion - 61. Regiment If this solution is OK then the unit was under the 25. Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS "Hunyadi", Waffen-Grenadier-Regiment der SS 61 What is your resorurce? Maybe you found some relics? Of course it can happen that this ...

Hi,

Ábel: May i update my website's link? :D http://philosophy.elte.hu/~jhardi/ss/

Jan: Please think over updating your data on 26.WGDdSS "Hungaria" - it is not, not, not, not "Gömbös" in any way :)

The hungarian division "Gömbös" never raised! Do not confuse the name of the 26. WGDdSS "Hungaria" with this. Gömbös refers to Gyula Gömbös, a hungarian right wing politician and prime minister.

Hi, I think he was absolutely good strategic thinker and commander. He was the CO of Hungarian Mil. Academy "Ludovika" as well...:) By the way: he was a volksdeutsche; and his loyalty to Horthy and the german army were undoubtable. His crime was "only" that he could not accept an...

Hi, Some comments: 1. There was an over-all confict between the Szálasi Mil. Ministry and the SSFHA concerning the two hungarian SS Divisions (from the beginnings!). There were parallel Div. Staffs, training officers etc. There were conflicting orders from SSFHA, Beregfy (Mil. minister) and Szálasi ...
