Thanks all. Just for the legal situation: I live as a registered citizen in Spain since june and was thinking of publishing on Canadian or US servers. International law and the Internet is a mess. But it will be in the interest for the public, and I doubt that the German government will have interes...

Spot on Jock! But as my father told me they turned kids like the luftwaffe helfer into SS, by letting them swear the oath (Vergatterung) and gave them armpatches. And then told them that the allied shot SS-soldiers as they where political soldiers, and thus illegal. But at at least one time in 1945 ...

As a kid I collected war memoribila and spent at least one trip to Germany every year. I bought a complete collection of Der Adler, the luftwaffe magazine in Hamburg in 1975. It was left in my familly home for many years and as my father died a couple of weeks ago, I have been going through a lot of...

Uncle Helmuth

I do not know much about him. But he was very close to the family before and during the war. http://www.travits.se/bilder/Anton%20pre%2054/helmuthss.jpeg This picture shows him in uniform. Any ideas what he was? Obviusly he was in the SS, that much I can see on the collar. http://www.travits.se/bild...

Thanks Sid, it sure make me feel better, as I am quite ashamed of being so wrongly informed. Can´t be to angry with my father since he died a couple of weeks ago. My grandfather, I was told, where also drafted in 1918, but did not get to the front before the war ended. Would that have been no...

Thanks again for all info. Clearly things have not been right before. As I understand it they did not talk about placements during the war and not so much after the family got together in 1950 either. I had no chance to talk to him as I only where three when he died. Neither did I talk about the war...

I got a reply from Deutsche Dienstelle, but it is not complete and actually made me a little confused. It says that Willhelm Anton served from 29.04.1941 - 08.05.1945 in Kriegsmarine. That leaves out Narvik, but I know that he even took a trip there in 1956 to see the place again and to honour his f...

Sorry I have not been back here for a while. I have moved down to Malaga, Spain and have been quite bussy. Unfortunately my father died two weeks ago, not from cancer, but from a hart attack. So I am back helping my mother a bit and also scanning more pictures and documents. I am more motivated in w...

I think that one of the big differences between Europe and USA is that of faith. You find that 6% of the english population believe in god, 9% of the swedish and so on. I read that over 60% of the people voting for Bush are believing christians. I do not believe, but I respect other poeples rights t...

Totally agree with your analysis. You even got the joke right. I am by no means anti-american and even if I am critical to the Israeli occupation of Palestine, I am by no mean antisemetic. An opinion shared by most europeans. We do not hate jews or believe they are specially bad. But we are fed with...

You are absolute right that they could not have ignored the antisemite message of NSDAP and no one is thus without guilt. I just mean that being a nazi in prewar Germany was not primeairely driven by a hate against non-kaukasians, as is the case with modern day nazis. It is hard to understand that i...
