Re: If I were Hitler...
My bad. I meant my post as a what if, alternate history speculation. If the Soviets fell in 1941, what would WWII have been like? As for Vichy, I was wrong. It was under Germany s thumb. Sorry.

If I were Hitler...
Hello, Feldgrauers! It's been a while since my last post; the concerns of a newly married husband and father.... I've been reading William L. Shirer's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich My contention is that Hitler would have occupied Russia according to plan and then focused the war on the naval ...

Hi, It's been a while since I posted here. Had to take care of a few things in my life. The sad thing is that common knowledge can be pretty bad. I recently overheard some coworkers disparaging the French in WWII, the usual condescending nonsense of the French supposedly being easy conquests. I sugg...

Hello, The problem about U.S. intervention in WWI was two things: 1, the money already invested in the British war effort and 2, the U-boat campaign in the North Atlantic. The OKL in 1917 gambled that Britain would be forced to the peace table before a sizable U.S. reaction/expeditionary force could...

Hello, Please allow me to clarify. I read that the form had some lines where the recruit had to list any time served in the RAD, HJ and the Wehrmacht among others. I didn't read anywhere on the form that Wehrmacht service was a requirement. As for the Allegemeine-SS question, I got the impression fr...

Hello, Okay, I was wrong on the requirements. I'm sorry, I should've taken a bit a time to read it, but many of the words I don't know. So, if I have read it right, a recruit had to list his time in service in the RAD, HJ and the Wehrmacht among others. Could a recruit at this time join the SS Verfu...

Hello, Hmmm, interesting. Aside from the height requirements, what were the requirements each recruit was to meet in order to pass? If remember right, the requirements included a clean criminal record and a Germanic ancestry from the 19th century for enlisted men and from 1750 for officers. Perhaps ...

German Prisoners in Soviet Hands
Hello, I was curious as to the fate of German prisoners in the Soviet POW camps. Namely, when did the Soviets repatriate these prisoners after the war's end? From what I gather, the U.S. and Britain returned the prisoners in their camps generally pretty quickly in the late 1940s. But, if I remember ...

Hello, Actually, the Soviet Union was collapsing politically in the non-Russian republics, during the Barbarossa invasion, since the Communists were suppressing nationalist movements in the Ukraine for example. Only National Socialist racial policy in the East prevented the oppressed nationalities f...
