Sorry, Martin; I've tried to open that page three times and each time, it not only refused to open, it made my machine crash--apparently, PDF files don't work well with Netscape Navigator (my browser; Internet Explorer no longer works for me). What's in that PDF file, if I may ask?

One thing, though--about antitank rifles being used to arm armored cars ... The SdKfz. 222 was normally armed with a 20mm cannon, so I would suggest that the photo of the four-wheeled AC with SS license plates being armed with an antitank rifle is in fact of an SdKfz. 221, which was normally armed w...

Thanks for the link, Michael; I sure wish my German was better than a smattering of military terms, but it was a good one, nonetheless.

Allow me to add that the tank viewed frontally in pics # 3 and 4 is a Panzer III with the 37mm gun. I can tell because it has the internal gun mantlet and two, not just one, co-axial machine guns.

Paul

What C. Gillono said was certainly true, Siker. A number of books about Kursk, for example, have photos of SS-crewed Panthers which are claimed to belong to an "SS-Panther Brigade", when in fact no such unit existed. The only Panther units at Kursk were the 51st and 52nd Panzer Abteilungen...

I went back to my bedroom and checked a photo I remembered in D-Day to Berlin , an old Squadron/Signal softcover book. On page 86, lower left corner, is a Saurer heavy cargo truck painted in camo (dark yellow with a sprayed-on scheme of olive green), and it has Navy license plates--WM. To see it cle...

A query, for needed clarification, Ron--

When "Panzer IV 15cm" is mentioned, that means the Sturmpanzer IV Brummbär, correct?

Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest that Zimmerit was never reinstated because it was expensive and time-consuming to coat a tank with the stuff; so, even if it didn't burn, why go back to using it?

Just my two pfennigs ...

Well, it looks as though you can't put your StuG IV in Panzer Lehr, Siker1, but if you still want a vehicle in Normandy, the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division is your best choice.

Always glad to help.

According to Osprey New Vanguard # 37, Siker1, StuG IVs were normally issued as single companies of 14 (later 10) vehicles each to infantry, Jaeger, mountain and Volksgrenadier divisions. But there were exceptions; Panzer Abteilung 190 of the 90th Panzergrenadier Division in Italy was fully equipped...

I personally tend towards the T-34/85 as "best all-around" WWII tank, but if I'm to be a German, give me a Panther G.

Hi; been gone a while. Hope everyone's doing fine I owned a Garand once, and never had trouble with the ejection of the empty clip. I believe it went more or less straight up and to the right; I know it never hit me, shooting lefty (I'm right-handed, but left-eye-dominant). The spent cartridge cases...

I've read in various places (can't recall them all) that Roehm's words and intentions were exaggerated by the SD, probably on Himmler's and Goering's orders, in order to convince Hitler that it was time for the SA leader to go--permanently. Himmler wanted the SS to be free of SA control, and Goering...
