I thought the HBO movie(of all things) "When Trumpets Fade" was about the best movie for portraying both sides in a balanced manner..check it out if you get the opportunity..heroism and cowardice by the americans as well as stupidity and cunning by the americans..germans are fairly accurat...

But one thing we can't dismiss is that despite knowledge of the impending loss the Germans managed to pull off quite a fight. I believe your accusations are unfounded considering you already admit to the fighting skill of the average American GI. Just to be able to launch an offensive on the scale ...
