Re: Feldgrau Author: Stephan Hamilton

Just got my copy of the Oder Front book a couple of days ago (wife still doesn't know it yet...he he). Left this review at Amazon: "The author's book is an excellent example of integrating various sources and adding expert commentary while keeping all those elements clearly distinguishable. Als...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Stephan Hamilton

Hey Stephan, I attended your presentation. I was the person who plugged your laptop in for you about halfway through. It was a shame that the scheduling was screwed up and the previous guy stepped on your time block. His deal about the railway gun was interesting but he made his points at least 4 ti...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Stephan Hamilton

I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere but Stephan is scheduled to give a presentation on his new book at the Historicon in King of Prussia on Sat, 9 July at 9 am. See the schedule here: http://www.historicon.org/HIST2011/files/2011_War_College.pdf and more info about the convention here: ht...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Stephan Hamilton

I vote for smaller format - everytime I go to read one of the monster-sized books in bed it gets to be quite cumbersome but from a marketing point of view the bigger books do make you feel like you are getting more.

Re: The Forgotten Soldier Movie Update

Bollywood TFS - the constant singing would have the same psychological effect as continous Russian artillery barrages. It might be more than the audience can take! :(

Re: The Forgotten Soldier Movie Update

Another thing to consider about TFS as a movie is that, although the book is well-known to the people who read a board like this one, it really is a relatively unknown book to the general audience. If you are going to invest big bucks in a movie production, you have to have a big star or a big book ...

Re: The Forgotten Soldier Movie Update

Let's not blame "Jews" for the lack of exciting German war movies. If Jewish filmmakers have a bias against portraying Germans as the good guys, can you really say that is irrational or unfounded? Reality check! If you want to blame anyone for the way Germans are portrayed in the movies, s...

Re: The Forgotten Soldier Movie Update

Just to provide another side of the issue - Again, as lifeling students of military history, we have a different level of interest and knowledge about this period that allows for subtle portrayals of the individuals involved in the conflict. For the general public, with a low level of interest and k...

Re: The Forgotten Soldier Movie Update

Just read the news about cancellation of "TFS: The Movie." Tough break for you, Doug. Actually it is a tough break for all of us - supporters and critics of TFS because it might have finally flushed Sajer out to actually answer some of the criticisms (although there are no answers to many ...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Doug Nash

...Which leads me to make a point - whenver someone sets out to write about an aspect of German military history, particularly if you're writing about a unit or battle, it's worth the time and effort to do research on whatever Allied unit the Germans were arrayed against - in the case of my book, t...
