Re: Uniform Identification
Something that could be of any help is to find out were your great grandfather lived in Germany during those days. What also might be helpfull is to make a closer scan of the musicinstruments to the right of your great grandfather. For as far as I can see there's something like a number 18 or so. Mo...

Re: Battles Near Dordrecht Holland November 1944
The best thing to do is write to the WASt in Germany and ask for his militairy-file. Jack, do you mean this list: http://www.museum19401945.nl/images/lijsten%20duitsers/duitse%20gesneuvelden.htm Since Weber has been burried among the unknown, he was never identified, so obviously couldn't be on any ...

Re: Heer Cavalry Troops
If, f.e., you'll have a look on the 1. Kavallerie-Division you'll see that it was used as mobile Infantry. Before going into real action they dismounted. After 1. Kav.Div. was turned into 24. Pz.Div. the Germans quickly understood that the terrain in Russia was screaming for the use of Kav. units, s...

Re: Is the 84 IR from 8 ID - IV armee crossed the Meuse first?
Hi Prosper,
Well if we're talking the Belgium part, wouldn't you agree that it was crossed south of Maastricht then, from Eijsden (Dutch side) to Lanaye (Belgium side). So most probably members of IR469 or the attached Pioniere.
Best regards,
Yp

Re: Is the 84 IR from 8 ID - IV armee crossed the Meuse first?
If we look at the whole western frontlines the Meuse was first crossed in Holland on 10.5.1940. The bridge over the Meuse at Gennep was taken by "Brandenburgers" under command of Oberleutnant Walther between 03:00 and 03:15. At 04:00 a Panzerzug with III./IR481 (Major Schenk) crossed the r...
