What is the cylinder on the side of the hull of the tank? I've been told it is an auxiliary fuel tank alternatively I've been told it is the container for the cleaning rod poles for the main gun.

Liam posted earlier that captains were usually company commanders. I had understood that normally Majors command companies. At least I know this is the case in the modern British Army. Was this not the same for WWII?

That is interesting information. It would seem that depending on the amount of explosive in the shell the 75mm types might vary in effectiveness by as much as 50%.

I seem to remember you responding on another thread that the panzergrenadier regimental pioneer company of the armored panzergrenadier regiment had one SPW equipped platoon and two truck mounted platoons. Is that correct or was it two SPW platoons and one truck mounted platoon?
