Re: Italian Treatment of Soviet POW
Thank you Richard. Is there any mention of recruiting from the prisoner population or using them for work that would fall outside the rules of the Geneva Convention?

Re: Travellers
Hi Phylo,
It never occured to me that none of them would be only British citizens instead of having dual citizenship. Thanks for that incite, as if I had thought of that I would have figured out your answer on my own.

Italian Treatment of Soviet POW
Does anyone have any information on the treatment of Soviet POW in the custody of the Italian government? Were they released after the 1943 armistice in exchange for Italians in Soviet custody? Did the Italians try to recruit Soviet citizens into their armed forces in the same way that they recruite...

Re: Artillery tactics and operation. WWII.
As per my PM I believe the best way to read these first person accounts is to read them in chronological order instead of the way I read them as they came out. If one is looking for 'train spotting' this is not the book I would think the book recomended by laurence strong is probably better though I...

Italy staying with the Triple Alliance
How much would the fact of Italy continuing in their alliance with the Central Powers have affected the war not only in the sense of Italy's contribution to the war but also recruiting in the US and other countries with Italian populations?

Did the Central Powers infect the Romanian cavalry with glanders? Or was this propaganda like the tales of attrocities in Belgium?

Hi Brian, There is a set of three books Where the hell are the guns, The guns of Normandy and The guns of victory by Blackburn. Blackburn was an officer in the RCA during the war and held many positions but was the longest serving FOO in Northwest Europe. I feel it gives a good account of how the RC...

Re: Travellers
Hi Simon, While Travellers and Roma both have historically lived similar lifestyles they are entirely different ethnicities. Travellers according to genetic testing are considered to be as close to the pre-Norse Irish that exist. Shelta is based on Irish Gaelic much like Yiddish is based on German. ...

Re: Experiences of Germans with recruitment for Foreign Legion
I can only agree with Mr. Moore when it comes to analyzing the experience of POW. I only talked with a friend of mine's father and it was evident that though he was a frequent escaper that it was his personality to do this not any conviction in it as much as an expression of his loyalty to Nazism as...

Were members of the Travellers residing in Britain conscripted and if so were they treated in an equitable manner or were there restrictions put on them so that they were only allowed to serve in particular units?

During conscription did any of Germany's allies segregate Roma into seperate units or were they evenly dispersed in their military with only the general distinction of lower participation in government schooling being a determing factor eg if they had never attended a school teaching higher mathemat...
