Re: Speer-Brigade 1

Hello Kelvin, Unfortunately not (still looking to see if I have filed the original page somewhere). From memory Martins' OB for the unit also included a Pz.Aufkl.Kp. as well. I believe Sperr-Brigade 1 was an 'economy of force' unit similar in role to a Soviet fortified area although the presence of ...

Re The Axis Forces Number 5 January 2018

The Axis Forces PDF Number 5 January 2018 contains an broad array of interesting historical articles ranging from the travails of European volunteers (principally Dutch) in and around the Narva bridgehead 1944 to Italian militaria commemorating military service on the Eastern Front. Additional micro...

Re: Question re. Feldherrnhalle Division 4

Just noticed that the documents have parts in English. Are these Allied sourced documents? (may explain some of the confusion the Pz units designation).

Re: Question re. Feldherrnhalle Division 4

I'm mystified! If you don't get any further response from Feldgrau, try posting those documents on forum.axis.com (Heer, Waffen-SS & Fallschirmkjager section) for interpretation/comment.

Re: Question re. Feldherrnhalle Division 4

You might have to recheck you original information. Pz 'Feldherrenhalle' 1 & 2 were not part of the Waffen SS but were army formations (albeit with substantial SA sourced cadres present). I have never heard of a 3rd or 4th 'Feldherrenhalle' Pz Division but there was a 'Feldherrenhalle' Panzer Br...

Re: Tank Battles in East Prussia and Poland 1944-1945

G'day Igor,

Are the efforts of 3rd Belorussian armoured units in January '45 covered at all? Regardless I will also keep my eyes out for this release.

Re: New book from Kamen Nevenkin about the Battle for Budapest

I noticed Helion's website no longer has any information on these titles -change of prospective publisher perhaps? I quized the Amazon website some time back as another release date came and went for the East Prussia title. They still list Helion as the publisher! Never really received a satisfactor...

Hello Kelvin,

I believe it was in East Prussia with Army Group Mitte (tactically with 'GD' Division?).

Re: German OOB in East Prussia January 1945

Hello Kelvin, Check this wonderful online resource website: http://www.wwii-photos-maps.com/home_page_019.htm You can download Ost lage maps for nearly everyday for the whole of January 1945 (Due to my own personal download limits I have not yet accessed them all myself!). The northern sections cont...

Re: German OOB in East Prussia January 1945

Hello Kelvin, Its not quite that simple. According to the the Ost Lage map for 1st January 1945, 83.ID was a OKH reserve stationed in Thorn well behind the front. However the Ost Lage Map for 12th January 1945 immediately prior to the onset of the Soviet Offensive, shows the 83.ID as a Army Group re...

Re: Take Budapest! (Will be out this July)

Just recently finished reading this title. The most illuminating and interesting section for me was the outline of the political situation between the allies and its effects on military decision making of STAVKA/Stalin and the pressures in turn placed on the Army/Front Commanders to achieve objectiv...

Pi.Brig.70

Just came across a table title 'Ist-Starke der opertiven Verbande der Heeresgruppe A (Stand: 1 JANUAR 1945) For Pi.Bde. 70 the Starke figure given is 4,892 which to me seems a little high for the Brigade by itself given that the Brigade formed with just two Pi.Btls I assuming there are some other in...

The Battle for Konigsberg

Just noticed this book on Amazon. Early days I suppose but has anyone had a chance to check out this new title 'The Battle of Konigsberg: The struggle for the East Prussian Capital October 1944-April 1945' by Brian Thomas. Seems to be self published? http://www.amazon.com/the-Battle-Konigsberg-Strug...
