Totenkopf Standarte Breslau 1939

My Grandfather volunteered on 1st September 1939 and with many SS reservists joined the Totenkopf Division. Before the Division was assembled at Dachau were such reservists posted to Totenkopf Standarte within Germany for training? I have photographs with annotations 'Breslau 1939' so must have been...

SS Totenkopf - Auto Union Horch 930

Hello! I recently found out that my grandfather drove a Horch 930 whilst serving in the Totenkopf Division - can anyone tell me what these were used for or any more about them, looks like a staff car to me but I am sure it was used for many tasks throughout his time with the division 1939-42. Many t...

Re: What Uniform/s..?

The Black SS uniform was from Motorstandarte 10 / Sturm 2 which was based in SW Germany near Ludwigsburg where my Grandfather was born and lived - I have just received his RuSHA file from the National Archives in the USA which details this. He joined the party in 33 and also the SS. The research con...

Re: What Uniform/s..?

Here is another unusual (to me) uniform - my Grandfather is far right holding the newspaper - this was in the early 30s I think,
does anyone know what uniform it is...? Many thanks,
Gunther

Fritz Düsel - SS Totenkopf

You may have read my other posts about the research I am undertaking regarding my Grandfather who served in the 12th Kompanie of Infantry Regiment 1 of the Totenkopf Division. I recently read an interesting extract from Fritz Düsel's diary in 'Wie Ein Fels Im Meer' ('Like A Cliff In The Ocean') by K...

Re: Wie Ein Fels Im Meer / Like A Cliff In The Ocean

Thanks Nicolai - it would seem then that the volume 'Im Bild' would be worth purchasing in addition to either the German or English divisional history as will include (I assume here) a more extensive range of pictures. All the best, Gunther

Wie Ein Fels Im Meer / Like A Cliff In The Ocean

Could anyone please advise on the above and the number / difference in the volumes available - I have found the originals in German one text and one 'Im Bild' / in pictures - does the English version combine completely the two German volumes or is it condensed in any way? The German volumes are 308 ...

Waffen SS Records "Totenkopf" - US National Archive

I thought I'd ask.....does anyone happen to have a copy of the records held at the US National Archive (NARA) on the Totenkopf Division? There are a number of microfilm rolls available (131-136 are of particular interest) but they are quite expensive at $135 each. I would happily pay someone for a c...

Sütterlinschrift

I have many letters from my Grandfather, posted from France and then Russia during his time with the 3rd SS Totenkopf Division. Many of these I can read (I speak German) and translate as they are written in clear latin type handwriting. However, up until October 1941 all of the letters are in the Sü...
