Hello, Even an 18-year old soldier in 1945, would be 80 years old now. He then would have to memorize from a period 62 years ago. I dont think you will have much luck there, however there a lot of books on the 2.SS. Most of them have written eye-witness accounts, and/or the experiences of Reich-sold...

Hello,

Slightly off topic, but it has been 62 years since WW2 ended.
Why don't the Russians want to share these documents ??

Greetings,
Hans

Hello Frederick, First, let me tell you that, I appreciate the excellent work you do on this topic. Secondly, I searched the chronicle of PanzerRegiment 15 "Ihr Glaube galt dem Vaterland", and found out that Von Lauchert commanded PR15 from August 1st 1943 until August 1st 1944. I guess, y...

Hello Frederick, Thanks for answering my question. I won't spank you.......yet, but I will, if you don't turn up with that review on the interview with Breidenbach !! Could you explain the meaning of [PzKK], [PA], [PW LL], [PW ID] ? Furthermore, I noticed you didn't mention Major Guido Von Wa...

Hello Piet, Unfortunately I haven't got the rolls either, but we can shake hands, for I am also interested in the Meldungen and whatever can be found. In my case, I am especially interested in information on PanzerBrigade 101 or SS-PanzerBrigade "Gross". These two units were assigned to II...

Breidenbach Lauchert

Hello Frederick, I would like to point out, that the book "Hitze, Staub und Pulverdampf", -chronicle of 20.Panzerdivision's PanzerRegiment 21 lists Major Breidenbach as CO of I. or II. Abteilung/PzRgt.21, after Panzerbrigade 101 in 1945. Because the remnants of the Brigade 101 were incorpo...

Hello, Leo Niehorster wrote: It was redesignated on 6.07.1943 as the 90. Panzergrenadier Division in memory of the former Afrika Korps formation. It only assumed the traditions of the division that had been lost in Tunesia, but it was a new division I am not questioning this, but wasn't General Frit...

Panzer-Zerstörer-Batallion

Hello, I would like to know, if there is any information on the so-called Panzer-Zerstörer-Batallione. A Google-search and Nafziger pointed out, that these Batallions should have a Stab and 4 Kompanien, but apparently, this was only in theory, as i.e. Pz.-Zerst.Btl.474 had only a Stab and 2 Kompanie...

Hello, If you are really considering to dig in deep, you should visit the NARA (National Archives) in Washington D.C. They should have files on that unit, and they are most probably worthwhile. Should that be not possible, than, -if I am not mistaken-, there is also a possibility that experienced re...

Hello,

There is a book on the 5.Gebirgsdivision. It is called "Hurra, die Gams !", and written by Julius Ringel.
However, I don't know if the book was translated in English.

Hope this helps,
Hansen

Hello Timm, To make things clearer or more complicated, Ernst Rebentisch' book on the 23.PzDiv. lists Oberleutnant Josef Gauglitz as Abt.fhr./PzRgt.23, while getting the Ritterkreuz on 25.01.44 !! This date is obviously a typo, because the RKT are chronologically listed and should most probable be 2...
