Re: about 65. infanterie Division

Amusingly, the divisional history by Velten references the artillery in his description of the division on formation, but only says they had a mixture of gun types, stating "either 36 light and 12 heavy, or 27 light and 9 heavy." I presume there was some type of mixture of 7.5cm and 10.5cm...

Re: Facebook group for Wehrmacht related fiction - readers and writers

Good stuff. Finding good proofreaders and beta readers is always a chore. Can't blame people either, really. I've offered to read fiction for other aspiring readers and sadly didn't always follow through on my promises. Best thing I ever did was take some fiction writing classes through the local wr...

Re: Ranks

Hi Katrina .. my father was in 3rd Panzer Division 1943-45 .. he says his rank was 'Fahnenjunker' .. can't find that anywhere, he said it was like Gefreiter, so more confusing, but he was an officer cadet yet tank gunner. Officer cadets/candidates were required to serve in the ranks first as part o...

Advice on agents, publisher and reading services for writers of "field grey fiction"

Having spent 20 years labouring on a manuscript, and recently having spent several months taking fiction and novel writing courses with the local writer's society to finally figure out the 'right' way to structure it, I think my work is ready for the next step - some serious editing, polishing, fact...

Re: Feldgrau author: Prit Buttar

I've had the book for some time but just now using it for some serious research and finding I would like the additional maps. I note the URL above is quite dead.

Can anyone provide me with a alternate link, or perhaps knows where I can find the additional maps for this volume?

Re: Non-Commissioned Officer progression ca 1944

You could look at : Auswahl und Ausbildung junger Offiziere I'm not sure what you're trying to tell me. If you had looked on the source, you would know :it is a university thesis about the selection (auswahl) and instruction (ausbildung) of young army, navy and LW officers between 1930/1945,with a lo...

Re: Non-Commissioned Officer progression ca 1944

The "by the book" getting ready to become an Unteroffizier or Unterscharführer, method dates from before to the beginning of WWII. At the last part of it there were many fieldpromotions, where the aspirant never went to a training centre. For example: I was "promoted to Unterscharfüh...

Non-Commissioned Officer progression ca 1944

A search found me this: http://www.feldgrau.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=30958 On junior officer training, I wonder if I might ask a similar question on NCO training. Trying to confirm my understanding after basic reading in the usual English language sources (US Army Handbook on German Forces...

Re: Bridgehead Kurland by Franz Kurowski

Sorry to bump this after so long, but I'm in the midst of a google search and genuinely interested - trying to find sources in English on 12th Panzer Division in the period June 1944 to VE-Day. Not a fan of Kurowski having been ripped off by his treatise on German forces in Italy. Can anyone recomme...

Re: Question on Kurowski's book "Battleground Italy 1943 -

Ah, thanks very much. Interesting read. I had feared I was being too harsh. I guess you would forgive me for thinking so, judging by your comments in the other thread. I agree with your conclusion, in that thread, and in the post above.
