Mr Albright,
I find this subject of great interest (ie - the camps in relation to the 3rd SS T Div in particular - especially after the division was rebuilt the first time till the end of the war). Just wondering what your sources are.
Cheers and thanks in advance,
Ray.

The Vegeance of Private Pooley
I just can't put this book down. Very, very interesting book about the massacre of British troops at La Paridis France, in 1940 by members of the 3rd SS Totenkopf Division. Anybody else read it? Well worth a look. It's well out of print (1956), but if you do a search on http://www.abebooks.com you w...

HaEn, This subject always comes up in regards to dogtags doesn't it? Although it wasn't stipulated in my post, I certainly didn't mean grave digging. I know of people who visit the Ukraine, for example, to use metal detectors to locate discarded dogtags. I have been told by some collectors that SS m...

Betz, I own some TK DIV tags, so I'd be interested in seeing the last two tags on your list. These SS tags are HEAVILY faked, although, the vast majority are easily spotted. How did you obtain them? Did you dig them yourself or did you purchase them from someone else? Post the tags here on the forum...

The cost would vary. Cost is dependant on a number of things - how many documents are in the personnel file (roughly 5 cents US p/page), how common the soldiers name is (more common the name - longer it takes to narrow down to the correct soldier), postage etc etc. In any case it is definately worth...

BLUEBOAR, If you really want to find out more about the Totenkopf soldier in question, you could do a search for his pesonnel file from the archives in Washington, USA. I have a researcher that specialises in these types of searches of SS files - I've used him a few times. Reasonably priced and prom...

19KUBAN43, It was possibly a security measure on the part of the Waffen SS. Some of the Waffen SS divisions, for example, had their unit insignia (ie - on vehicles) changed so as to confuse the Russians, and or hide WSS movements. I'm pretty sure that the hiding of insignia happened during the attac...

Daniele,
Nr. 1888 is the number assigned to the soldier of SS.Pz.Gren.Ausb.u.Ers. Btl. 17 . This would have normally been found on his dogtag as well.
Here's a site that should have the info you are seeking :

Cheers,
Rayman.
