The Germans had a similar problem in Russia with frostbite. If you failed to take the proper steps to prevent it you could be charged with negligence...even though your summer outfit and tattered boots couldn't prevent it . The idea was to get the men to change their socks and take care of their fee...

Re: Well ....
The civilized world should always be ready for these sorts of eventualities, and when it does happen, it's only because there's a serious problem, and the problem is endemic to the system. How right you are...called an election year. Something the Iraqi people might enjoy someday. These abuses happ...

Probably doesn't matter. I can type 80-90 words a minute, so no matter which army drafted me, I'd end up being a clerk. How right you are. Old vet here in town came from a family that ran a typewriter repair business. This guy had been fixing typewriters since he was a kid and could type like a dem...

Soon after the British leveled Hamburg, Speer met with Hitler and warned him that if six other German cities were attacked on that scale it would bring armament production to a halt. Hitler agreed to Speer's plan of dispersing German industry which until that time was highly concentrated. The indust...

I've read that Sherman crews were very intimidated by Panther and Tiger. What was the feeling among Churchill crews? And if you don't mind I'd welcome your comments on facing Pz IV as well. reb Whether or not their opinions were valid...Allied tankers were definitely spooked by German tanks. Natura...

The nearest the BBC could get to live radio reporting in Normandy was to have reporters talk into portable record making machines. Hopefully the records could then be flown back to the UK for broadcast within the day. That's true...I have a recording made just that way when the Marines stormed Pele...

One incident that comes to mind was a film made during and after a landing on one of the Pacific Islands(have forgotten which). The aftermath showed the bodies of young Marines bobbing in the surf. It was shown in the US and there was outrage. That was war too close....and it was some mother's son d...

Color motion pictures were filmed by using a large camera running three strips of film simultaneously. That's the Technicolor process. Not really suitable for actual combat footage and expensive to boot. The Wizard of Oz was filmed using the Technicolor process. Hollywood director George Stevens too...
