Oleg The Soviets did indeed "capture" Warsaw. They rearmed and refitted at liesure, then launched a neew assault andf brushed aside what was left of the German forces and took possesion of the steaming rubble. Basking no doubt, in the cheers of the "liberated" Polish people... c...

I chose #1. Why would the russians waste their strength when the germans could just do the 'work' for them? It turns out positive for the russians, because the germans are suffering irreplaceable casualties further weakening them and because the the germans would be exhausted after the uprising tha...

Sid Stalin had yet to encounter so many freedom fighters in one place. Admittedly, his troops were at the end of their logistics tail but he combined convience with sleezy murderous opportunism. To say one is Polish is to admit to having been born in the lion's mouth. That Poland still exists at al...

USSR got 1000 60mm “jet rifles” – which are probably bazookas.Anyway panzerfaust was by far more wide spread system in Soviet Army – up to the point that it became part of standard TOE of Assault Engine...

Re: Rosco Braithwaite is the author of said book...

Moscow 1941: The People and a City at War, or some such title. I seen Braithwaite on C-SPAN twice. He has a lot to say, but unfortunately he is not a very good public speaker. His slow, halting delievery is tough to stay with. But he does not merely read from text, which can often be painful for an...

Just for the sake of the argument, the tank battle at Maciejow was in July 1944 and as far as I understand the Soviet thrust was a prelude to the general offensive in this sector. The Wehrmachtbericht stated that German units destroyed a tank corps and several rifle divisions. where is that? In Jul...

My only point was that, after being decimated in the Cherkassy kessel, Wiking put up a good fight at Kovel. I'm not claiming a "slaughter of Bolshevik Hordes"--you know me better than that! Of course I do you know better than that – I apologize if I offend you- it just some times this rom...

So, now we have 5 Rifle divisions and somewhere between 120-191 tanks? This gets more interesting as it develops and definitely doesn't cast a shadow on Wiking's achievement at Kovel. Two things, one, where did all that Soviet armor come from? Secondly, at normal strength, wouldn't five rifle divis...

Andy, the division was created on December 1, 1940, well before the invasion of Russia. I just want to see some folks back up their assertions with facts. Igor, nice of you to reply. Gee, those must have been some really well-equipped infantry divisions, since at the Battle of Maciejow, Wiking repo...

English-language movies I assume? Office Space Pulp Fiction SLC Punk Full Metal Jacket is good move (not to perfectionist my judgment on this one is not based on its realism or lack thereof -but rather on the characters portrayal) The thin Red Line and Apocalypses now are good for the same reason pl...

How can you have an objective re-enactment when biases had been shown by the person/people who wrote that webpage (possibly by the organizer or even the person who report this wargame)??? what is exactly an objective reenactment? For example, even a luftwaffe re-enactor (with an enlisted man's rank...
