Michel Katalog

Hi Arne,

Has Michel published a new edition of the Privatpostkarten-Katalog Deutschland (Ganzsachen auf Privatbestellung) Deutsches Reich 1873-1945? I'm still working with the ZweiteAuflage 1992.

Many thanks.

Weimar Inflation overprinted stamps

Hello MWallner, The stamps you reference are generally not especially valuable. Specialists in this area go into the more esoteric varieties involving printing errors, margin printing varieties and such like. My suggestion would be to go to a Barnes and Noble or similiar bookstore and see if they ha...

Inselpost

Hi Groscurth, As was alluded to in my post above, there are certain Inselpost stamps that are far rarer than the Tunis package stamp. The Vukovar overprint Inselpost Michel 6 on cover and the Insel Leros 11Bd on cover immediately come to mind with values easily exceeding $20,000 each. The Vukovar st...

General's Identity

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the General sitting next to Raeder is Walter von Brauchitsch.

Doenitz

I suggest those interested in reading about the deliberations of the Nuremburg judges obtain a copy of 'Reaching Judgement at Nuremburg' by Bradley F. Smith, published in 1977. Based upon the hitherto unknown Justice Francis Biddle's private notes, you will see the difficulty the Court had in dispos...

Attributed weapons

Yes, I have. I have among other items, an artillery Luger that has the name of the german soldier carved into the inside of one of the grip plates together a letter describing its capture by the American soldier who liberated it and brought it home in 1918. Like you, I have several pistols and rifle...

Third Reich related stamp sites

There are a couple of basic sites that should be consulted.

There is the Germany Philatelic Society (GPS).

Go to Yahoo. There is the Third Reich Stamp group.

I suggest using google to access both of these.

I will provide more info later.

Riefenstahl's Legacy

I always find it interesting when discussions regarding Leni Riefenstahl's place in history inevitably turn to her relationship to NS Germany. There are the brow beaters who will dismiss her life as nothing more than a paen to Nazi Germany and the Hitler cult of personality. Her skills as a film mak...
