Re: Use of OLI/QJM in wargame design

Just wanted to thank Rich for the response. Sorry if the term 'curve-fitting' touched a nerve I remembered it mostly becuase one of the books went into a lengthy defence of QJM and its practices so the term stuck in my mind. I should have realised it was a hot button and avoided using it alll, rathe...

Re: Infantry Schools -- Uniforms during Manuvers.

Okay I think I need to refine my search. Anyone know where the 15th army schooled and performed manoevres with the bulk of it's forces during the rebuild period between the retreat from Belgium and Market-Garden? I'm thinking of modeling my forces on an erzatz company that could reasonably be presen...

Re: Infantry Schools -- Uniforms during Manuvers.

Thanks again... this is awesome. certainly give me more clues. I wonder if the reversible red/yellow band signifies an umpire or indicates a side in maneuvers? Red Vs. Yellow? as opposed to Red vs. Blue? also It's interesting to have the word 'Kampfrichter' to sumpliment Sheidsrichter. obviously the...

Re: Use of OLI/QJM in wargame design

I didn't. My relative -might- have. I'll have to ask him. he's about ten years my elder and he and his circle of gamer friends redesigned their own 'homebrew' version of what was then a popular miniatures ruleset. I don't know if they used Dupuy's work to assist with their modications but at least h...

Re: Use of OLI/QJM in wargame design

Well, I have been trying to extract those elements that I can actually use. For example, I calculate the OLI values for the weapons and vehicles and I have values for the battalions and regiments of a division. I just found some oddities in the OLI system and tried asking in the Dupuy Institute for...

Re: Infantry Schools -- Uniforms during Manuvers.

Unfortunately I don't have that particular book.

know where I might find it? Is it likely to be in chapters or my local library?
I live in one of, if not the, largest Canadian city so I'm sure there's something.

Re: Favourite WWII wargames unit

It varies each time I try to put together an army list for a game/tourney. That said I have to say my third hand Stuart is my current favourite. Flames of war uses a points-buy system to set a 'level' for the playing feild and the makers (battlefront) release 'intelligence breifings' list what you c...

Re: Infantry Schools -- Uniforms during Manuvers.

Thanks. That's awesome. prompt and useful information. I must have missheard my sister spelling the word for me over the phone since I have an extra 'f' at the beginning of what is essentially the same root word. The bit about white tape on the head gear is more useful than you may have realised sin...

Re: Best tabletop rules

Odd that no one has mentioned 'Flames of War' by Battlefront.

Ist it only a local phenoma where I live? or is it dissmissed as a varient on 'dorkhammer'?

Re: Use of OLI/QJM in wargame design

I'm not sure how much help I can be. I've read two of Col. Dupuy's books on QJM. I don't think it's a coincidence that the first book came out right around the time that there was an explosion in the publication of cardboard chit and hexmap games. But using QJM to design a game? the best I could off...

Infantry Schools -- Uniforms during Manuvers.

I'm not sure this is the right section for this question. My question is reality based, I'd like to know some details primarily about how the Heer, marked their uniforms and vehicles to designate "red vs. blue" (or whatever colours they used) during military manuvers. My motivation is game...
