Re: Heeres-Küsten-Art. Abteilung 145

Thanks, Lorenz! I will post about my experience and anything new I find about the Abteilung. I think I will also be visiting WASt to clarify a few details with them first, as I find that researchers there are certainly most friendly and courteous.

Re: Heeres-Küsten-Art. Abteilung 145

Thanks so much, Lorenz! I did not know about an archive in Potsdam, I will try to go there next week. Do you suppose though that if KTB'er- und Anlagen documents were destroyed, the general records would still have a sufficient information to determine the history and geographical locations of the A...

Heeres-Küsten-Art. Abteilung 145

Greetings! Does anyone have information on Heeres-Küsten-Art. Abteilung 145? They were involved in the Crimean campaign and are mentioned in "Kampf um die Krim" by Tieke as the forces involved against the Soviet navy landing in 1942. There seems to be very little written about them otherwi...

Re: Vermisstenbildliste in Berlin

Thank you very much, John! I will do it first thing in the morning. I was planning on going there tomorrow but didn't think that they may require an admittance pass.

Vermisstenbildliste in Berlin

Greetings!

Does anyone have Vermistenbildliste books in Berlin? I was hoping to look at them at the Stadtbibliothek for the genealogical research, but the section with the volumes is closed until November. I am in Berlin for another ten days. Would anyone kindly let me know?

Thank you so much!

Re: Researcher needed urgently for a relative search. Krim 1944

Brendan, I am quite sure my grandfather served in Crimea, because that's where my grandparents met. I just need to identify him amongst a few hundred other Rudolfs in the area at the time... This sounds overwhelmingly difficult and yet possible. Richard, I have done the "basic information resea...

Re: Researcher needed urgently for a relative search. Krim 1944

Thank you very much for your kind words, Brendan! I've been feeling a little desperate...I was hoping to have some assistance in the search, but so far I am left on my own. I just really wish to find my grandfather and our relatives before my father gets too old... As for the photos- I was told that...

Re: Researcher needed urgently for a relative search. Krim 1944

Hello Uli! Thank you very much for the links! Unfortunately I don't have the most basic information that archive and research centers such as WAST ask for. I don't know the date of birth of my grandfather, can only approximate, neither do I have his last name, only first name, which is Rudolf. I kno...

Researcher needed urgently for a relative search. Krim 1944

Hello everyone! I am looking for a professional researcher who could assist me in finding my grandfather who had most likely been killed at the end of the Crimean campaign in 1944. The available information may seem scarce, however the research I've conducted on my own may be helpful, while the actu...

Re: Major Rudolf Japs, 73. Inf.Div

Thank you very much, Eric!
Do you know if there is any photograph of Rudolf Japs available, or a "yearbook" for the officers involved in the Crimean campaign?

Thanks,
Nika

Re: edelweiss riddle

So, you are a neighbor! Of course, Mountain View! Have lived in SF and Berkeley for over ten years, before moving to DC, and am here for another couple of days enjoying the weather. I've noticed that there are a few members on the site who are professionally involved in the military, probably not to...

Re: edelweiss riddle

Hello Guy! Sorry I've been out of touch- visiting my almost-native SF bay area has kept me away from any decent internet signal. Thank you so much for all the input and time you've spent on the subject! Those are incredibly beautiful flowers, and am touched at the thought of what they symbolize! I s...

Re: edelweiss riddle

Dear Guy, It does not seem to be a real flower since the petals in the pin are set together much denser than those of the gothic-sharp petals of the live edelweiss. So, I guess it could have been a piece of jewelry, a dedication and a charm my grandfather carried with him from Austria. I was hoping ...

Re: edelweiss riddle

Dear Guy, Thank you so much for your help! Unfortunately I don't have the actual edelweiss, in fact I accidentally noticed it in the photograph and was amazed at how daring and courageous my grandmother was since the photograph was taken in Crimea in the 1950's! Just imagine what the local authoriti...
