In July, 1944, Hitler asked that all Pzkpfw IV production be converted to the output of the Jagdpanzer IV/70. This set a train of events in motion which resulted in only three classes of vehicles being considered: the Panther and Tiger vehicles with their associated heavy Jagdpanzers; the unified Pa...

Sorry, Stab, but rose-pink was not just for armored panzerjäger troops. Pre-war Panzerabwehr units existed(by 1936 at least) and wore the field service uniforms with rosepink Waffenfarbe and a Gothic "P" and an Arabic numeral denoting the unit on their epaulets{Uniforms and Traditions of t...

I've just read this post. The Waffenfarbe of an Infantrie Panzerjäger unit would be hellrosa or rose-pink, not white.

Sorry, but quite to the contrary, Panzer Colors I thru III are neither accurate and detailed but are full of errors and mis-information. Try this site for some more up-to-date info:

I think Sid and the Hawkeye Oberleutnant are closer to the reasons. At the beginning of the war no other air force had anything even closely resembling the Ju-87 and and the Luftwaffe FO's. They were still thinking "bomber" and "anti-bomber" aircraft with no thought to ground sup...

I have to backup Roger. "205" was Wittmann's Tiger heading to Normandy but evidence seems to agree that it was either KO'd by jabos or simply broke down before V-B. At this point evidence seems to point to "212" as his Tiger at V-B. Just because the painting shows "205"...

Not a dumb question at all, rather a very difficult and confused subject to understand. These units wore their own Waffenfarbe, but what that Waffenfarbe was often depended on their unit. The Panzergr-Regt. and Panzerfüsilier-Regt. of GD wore white piping on their Sturmartillerie uniforms issued in ...

This has been discussed several times on other forums, here's Mike Pruett's answers: SPW Crew Uniforms March 23 2000 at 8:03 AM Michael H. Pruett -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- German Heer SPW crews (SdKfz. 250 & 251) were issued both the black P...

Hi Matt; Glad to see that photo threw you also. In ACHTUNG PANZER No. 4 there must be a similar photo of the gunner's seat (with the weird arrangements of hand wheels) showing it sitting forward of the gun shield. That's why I didn't really make the connection until your description of the shield ma...

OK! I was looking for a more "separated" shield like the Panzer IV or the PaK 40 installations on various Panzerjäger; that's why I was surprised when I looked at the Elefant gun mount. You just keep learning. Thanks for the discussion and hope others gained something from it.

OK, Matt, let's discuss what the shield looks like. If that is the trapezoid shaped piece with a bolt in each corner, then both have the shield. I was thinking that was part of the gun mount. And I can just see a similar shape at the left of the Saumar JP's breech. I was looking for a sheet metal gu...

Matt; I don't know what photos you are looking at, but the ones of the Munster Jagdpanther in SCHWERE JAGDPANZER by Spielberger, Jentz and Doyle; and the ones of the IWM JP in ACHTUNG PANZER No. 4 don't show shields either.
