This webpage is NOT very good. The information given is only accurate prior to June 1944, after that is is a collection of myths, guesses and wishful thinking about how the Germans employed IR technology. It's better to ignore this site. The earlier posts on Feldgrau present a much better analysis o...

Portepee

OK, Annelie, that's exactly our point. Neither Christoph or I have been able to pinpoint the exact date of the introduction of the Troddeln and/or Portepee to the Prussian/Germanic armies. If you have references and dates please share them. We would be greatful

Sabre knots

I haven't been able to find anything with more exact dates to offer than Christoph's good general history of the Portepee. Here is a website I've used for some reference:

I/R Panthers in the west

Rudel; Did you read the above posts: NO USE OF I/R PANTHERS IN THE WEST ! Sorry, this continued myth of I/R Panthers against the Americans is just that: A MYTH. Your wargame booklet is trash! It never happened. There is no evidence of I/R Panthers used in any major action anywhere much less against ...

Ferdinand/Elefant tracks

You are correct. Among the changes made when the Ferdinands were sent back for refitting was replacing the tracks with a new type that are heavier cleated than the early track.

Other Panzers with unit insignia

Hi Christoph; Along the same lines: Have you seen Panthers, Tiger II's, or Jagdtigers with unit insignia? Stug III's with Brigade insignia but what about Divisional or smaller? Jagdpanzer IV's or Panzer IV/70's (116th P.D. exception?) Other AFV's that do not seem to have been marked with unit emblem...

OK Christoph;

I know you have a ton of photos, so:

I have not seen a photo of a JP with Divisional markings applied. Do you have such a photo(s)?

Yep, Michael, I'm all over this one. Sorry, Coldmeter, but this hoary old chestnut about P.D. Muncheberg and it's 50 Panthers appears roughly quarterly somewhere on the web with someone prattling about how the Germans used I/R in mass quantities. Well, it ain't so! Kamen Nevenkin posted the best his...

Panzer 38(t)

Sebastian; One other thing that I did not mention in my post: forgotten tank? You obviously have not been looking at any of the discussion groups on WWII AFV's. The 38(t) shows up constantly on these boards as to which kit is best, how to fix the Italeri kit, how to fix the Marder III, etc, etc, etc...

I do not know if would class it as battlefeld-survivable tank in 1944-1945; but it was a good, adapable tank chassis. And the German obviously thought the same.

The Czechs designed a fundimentaly sound AFV in 1933-36 and it's deriatives did very well in the 1940-1945 era.

Hetzers

First of all, did you use the search function to look for posts on Hetzers?
You would have found that this was discussed pretty thoroughly in Feb, 03.

There is no information that indicates the 12. SS was ever issued Hetzers.
