You outdo yourself Davidov!

Fancy that, checking all the dirt just to make sure it might have been German. Crazy concept, eh?

In a field depot somewhere in Saarbrucken area a somewhat overweight but otherwise very happy former StuG gunner regaled his recruits with a tale of his derring do. "But Feldwebel, where is this legendary crew that you served with?" one keen picture of the Saar's youth asked. "Like my...

G'day all, I'm a member of the RSL and I haven't seen any official statement in Reveille or at any sub branch meeting of opposition to the deployment. Quite the contrary the NSW Branch (and National body) has fully supported the Howard Governments stance on the whole issue - nor has the VVA condemne...

The Imperial Japanese weren't a nice lot to deal with either - ask any veteran of the Sth West Pacific or Burma Campaigns. Both my grandfathers were PoW's of the Japanese after the fall of Singapore in Feb 42. They didn't have many charitable words for the guards on the infamous rail way built by th...

They were as bad as each other. Neither was led by what you'd call nice people and if you want my 5 cents, here it is. No one side can hold the moral high ground. End story. But you know what? The least evil of the lot came out on top. The alleged 'crimes' of the Western Powers pale into insignifican...

G'day Kafka!
Long time no post! Anyway I run with Korea, its got a bit of tradition and old fashioned Capitalism v Commie Bastards zing about it. Besides Iraqi's look like an entire nation of taxi drivers to me so I reckon better bang for your buck lies in Korea!

Hey Evil D!, The RN was still flying limited numbers of Seafires in Korea, mainly off HMS Ocean. Most of the FAA Fighter Sqdns flew Sea Fury's during the Korean job. HMAS Sydney operated Sea Fury's and Firefly's 1951 - 53. 77 Sqdn RAAF flew Mustangs and re-equipped with Meteors whilst in Korea. No R...

Hey there all! Yes, Britain did fly F4U Corsairs but mainly with the British Pacific Fleet in the later stages of the Pacific campaign. They had a fair old mix of aircraft flying off the carriers - Corsairs, Seafires,F6F HellCats,TBM Avengers, Firefly's even the mighty Swordfish made an appearance o...

Well they were flying in Korea I know that much! And I have an inkling that they may have stiil been flying with the French in Indo China in 1954 (I've seen F8F Bearcats in Indo China). I guess F4U would have been on USN CVE's involved in convoy escort in 1944. But with the operations in Normandy th...

The Corsair saw most of its life in the Pacific didn't it? I think that may be the reason why a lot of people sort of miss some of the seriously great aircraft in that theatre. The RNZAF used the Corsair as a land based fighter in the Pacific with great effect and I believe they lasted in service un...

I believe the 'Tiger' in SPR was actually a M551 Sheridan - judging by the running gear and the unique idler wheel at the front. Its a bit of a sad commentary on the Sheridan that its best work has been as a OPFOR vehicle at NTC & JTC as well as doing Spielberg's movie work. Nice vehicle in theo...
