Roger, i am not suggesting the publishers should know, but surely they should employ proof readers who should know. And in this case it is a very basic mistake to make. In your post you sound like you are suggesting that the LAH could have acquired the Hornisse from somewhere, do you have any eviden...

Hey Tas, you could try "In the firestrom of the last years of the war". This is the divisional history of the 9th and 10th SS Panzer Divisions and covers Anrhem very well. There are numerous personle accounts and anacdotes in there, but it is slightly "hard" going at times but i ...

Nashorn/Hornisse in the LAH?

Could anyone confirm the whether or not the LAH were every issued any of these tank hunters and if so how many and what unit they belonged to. I have checked my sources but can find nothing to confirm or deny this and would be grateful for any help on this.

I got my "idea from "Jochen Peiper"by Patrick Agte.I thought it was in reference to his rescue of the 367th(?) Infantry division?I could be wrong about the divisional unit number but i thought that was were they got the name from because of the way they "blowtorched" their w...

He yRayman---thanks for that.I had read some where about that and i agree with you on the mention of Eicke being decorated.I think he was a hard man with some unsavory elements to his character,to say the least.Perhaps the problem with between him and Himmler was personel? Not sure but i am sure that...

Hey Sid, Hmmm well not sure where i read it,but that is what Eicke thought. It might be in "HimmlersBlack Order" by Robin Lumsden? But as i said that is the impression i got from what i read. If i remember correctly it had something to do with Eickes growing "stature" in Hitlers ey...

In reference to the Demjanks pocket.I have read that Himmler refused to withdraw the 3rdSS for personal reasons and so their casualties where that much higher for haveing been kept in the pocket beyond any clear reasoning. It took a personal appeal by Eicke to Hitler to get the 3rd into a rear area ...

Hey Jenny, have just had a quick look through "Tigers in Combat" Vol 1 and can find no pictures of a coat as you describe for the 509th. There are not that many pictures of the men of the 509th but from your description i would say you have a "fake" on your hands. If you are able ...
