Re: Winter Report 1065
Let's try this: This has to be carried out step by step, i.e. always equip self-contained units which are then ready for action. This applies in particular to snow shoe equipment for rifle companies which have to be fitted out section by section, platoon by platoon. Can't find anything suitable for ...

Re: Translation Reqeust
Hi Brian, after a bit of googling and musing I think it could be something like Truppensanitätsarzneikiste - medical kit box, made of would and containing drugs etc. That would at least fit in with the the fact that it's a medical unit and explain the problems with packagint, but I'm not 100%. But i...

Re: What's happening here?
Alles klar :? !! Krasnodar, Maikop and Pyatigorsk are falling to our front. We must get to the mountains soon, to be able to keep up the momentum of the pursuit. The Caucasus is the real goal of our all our wishes. We are looking forward to the mountains, to the woods, to the snow and the spring wat...

Mmm, like Kurt says not easy without perhaps seeing the previous sentence or two. Is er referring to the Caucasus, masc in German?
If you could post the previous two? Also, is the puntcation right? Copuld it be a full stop after Steppe?

Re: A little bit of idiomatic German
Hi,
here's my two eurocents to add
And our troops don't have the spirit and élan any more like they had in '39, '40 or even '41. They are willing, disciplined, but the belief, which is so absolutely necessary, has taken a battering. Where will it all lead?

Re: Sperrverband vs Sperrgruppe
Hi, Sperrverband is usually translated as something like 'blocking force or formation'. A unit assembled to for a specific task of preventing the enemy advancing somewhere. Sperrlinie is a barrier or 'blocking line', i.e. where the Sperrverband would hold the enemy. Sperrgruppe is, as far as I'm awa...

Re: Messy compound sentence
A tricky sentence to be sure, my take is this: Probably with regard to Model's strict order, the Division however received the double assignment, hardly conducive to the situation of continuing the attack on Stolpce, to seal off the Usca section from Olchowka to the railway, assemble in the area of ...

Re: Any citizens of Riga here?
Hi Prit,
I will be in Riga towards the end of October so could take a look. Where does the street run to and from?
In fact it appears that Jelgavas iela has its own Wiki entry which states that it was called Alte Mitauer Strasse and then Mitauer Strasse.

Re: can someone tell me what this says
Verwendungszeit is something like "usage time" - time in which something can be used. Not sure how that fits in here. The translation of the other phrase is something like 231/ II International law Collection of intergovernmental agreements for the High Command and would appear to be some ...
