A couple of weeks ago the dutch newspapers and TV reported that some scientists had dug out some french graves of the 1812 campaign.
They stated that besides the harsh russian winter of 1812, there was another factor which caused the defeat of Napoleon's army........

I've seen this picture before and it stated:

"Men of the 4.SS-Freiw.Sturmbrigade 'Nederland' in the Volkhov area"

This unit became the 23.SS-Freiw.Pz.Gren.Div. "Nederland", although it never reached divisional strength.

I've published a story on my site with the permission of his son.
It's a dutch volunteer, who served at first with 'Germania' and till the end with Panzer Regiment 5 of the Wiking division.

Have a look, read it and let me know or sign my guestbook

What exactly are you searching for? I stay for 3 or 4 times a year on the Bergen Übungsplatz and staying at Camp Oerbke or Hörsten. The training area is partially used as shooting range and training area, bounded by a 65km long 'Panzer Ringstrasse', which is public road at some parts. The area is bo...

Besides the already mentioned Infanterie Sturmabzeichen, Panzerkampf abzeichen and wounded badge, the (panzer)grenadier could also wear the Eisernen Kreuz II.Klasse or even Eisernen Kreuz I.Klasse. Not neccessary heroic awards, but rather confirmation of his capability to stand and fight, being a re...

Hi,

From my own wintertraining (airmobile infantry) in Norway and Germany, we had 3 versions of camouflage:

1. Woodland DPM - (almost) no snow

2. Woodland DPM trousers/ white snow liner - partial snow covered

3. Full white snow liner - snow; everywhere I could see :D
