ENGLISH VERSIONS OF DER ADLER

Hi, Question dealing with the Magizine Der Adler. I know someone who has several copies of Der Adler mostly 1943. I hesitate to buy them because it seems strange that at that late in the war they printed that in english? Am I wrong and they did? Around the top of each issue it says its from the Germ...

Russian Archives Opened After Soviet System Ousted

Does anyone even know or guess if since the fall of the old Soviet Union the Russian archives have been picked clean. I know David Glantz as used a lot. Could we see some new stuff coming out? Old myths dispelled? Could some German Documents and such come to light that the russians brought back? Jus...

Tigre,

Then next day it references Stubaf. Muhlenkamp but does not clearly state he is Brandts replacement. Only that the SS Recon Bn under him has to recon past Gorki.

Tigre, This comes from Das Reich II pg 294. He was killed when he and his staff where caught by tree bursts from Artillery. It says bombs but I think it was artillery. On 13 July 41 Looks like the location was a town called GORKI. Not only Brandt was killed but his Regimental Surgeon as well Hstuf. ...

Well I think Germany stood a decent chance of winning it but the more he meddled in military affiars the worse he got. I remember something about him freaking out when Norway was invaded and the situation seemed in doubt. Every piece of good info and he was joyful and when something bad happened he ...

Reb and Ron, Thanks for the info, however Ron in another retorical question. After a short time Metz did prove I believe to be somewhat of a meat grinder. So when Bradley said it would save causualties I wonder what number he had in his head? I was reading that the 17th SS Panzer was there at Metz o...

Patton's Push Against METZ Forts

This battle has surprised me because I see this really screams, "Encirle and bypass, let them die on the vine." However, Patton instisted on taking those Forts. Why? Did he just give into his own legend and thought if he willed it, no German was going to stop him. Seemed like another waste...

Reb, Good points, honestly amazed Eisenhower singed off on this one? Was he not at first not in favor but presure from Churchill and the President made him go with it. Now I do agree that Bradley and Patton in particular could have been served better with those forces and supplies attached to Arnhem...

AIR SUPPORT FOR ARNHEM

Reading in Max Hastings "Armageddon", he makes mention of the lack of airsupport that assisted the German cause because Allied airpower did not stop reinforcements from reaching Nijmegen. Now I remember in some other reading I did made mention that not only did the Airborne units communica...

I guess to ask about Turkey and Germany, you then have to ask the question about Spain and Germany. Hitler could have just moved in there to take Gibralter and close that area off to the Brits, but he did not.

Reading in the Halder War Diary 39-42 from 26 May to about 4 June 41 he references Iraq and that military assistance would come by way of France and training of troops would be under French control. He does say that there was a plan to ship arms through Turkey to Syria for Iraq but that was turned o...

Feldpost Assistance

Hello All, I have recieved a few letters and was looking to see if anyone had any idea where they were mailed from. I believe I read the post mark as it is written at the end of the letter: L O V 297 Lg, P.A. Berlin F.P.M 11084/5 If I read that correctly as the Feldpost address when does it mean. An...
