Re: NARA Rolls - FTP Server

Hi John, Thank you very much for your work and for making this available. I tried downloading from your site for the first time yesterday and after about 1/6th of one roll had downloaded the server disconnected and it would not allow me to log back in to finish. I tried to finish that roll today but...

Re: For those of you who have researched Panzer Div. records

Probably higher, most likely in the records of Gen.Insp.d.Pz.Tr., but I am away from my sources at this moment and am going off of the top of my head. Depending on the timeframe and the particular info you are looking for, sometimes you have to look at all levels from Division up and cross-reference...

Re: Need help about Heeresgruppe C documents

Some records in microfilm form are held at the US National Archives (NARA) and copies of these can be ordered in microfilm or DVD form, and the originals were returned to Germany (Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv in Freiberg). The contents held at NARA can be viewed here (not the actual contents, but a su...

Full name? I am not familiar with this unit: Abstoll-Ers.u..

If I am guessing correctly, this unit is listed as Abstoll (or Abstell)-Ers.u.Sammelkomp. 355. I have never heard of a unit name like this and would appreciate any clarification. I was unable to upload a copy of the citation, but below is a link to the same question I put on Axis-History: http://for...

Transcription help sought for German document

Time for German "Wheel of Fortune" I am putting this on Axishistory also. The following phrase is from a document that is partially illegible and I am hoping that someone can help me figure out the missing bits: http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j25/SamWren/1017help.jpg What I have been ab...

Re: My trip to NARA (College Park)

This will be a bit redundant, but I thought my experience at the UK National Archive might be of interest and use to someone, so here goes: After arriving at Heathrow and getting my suitcase, I took the Picadilly line from the airport toward the first station where I could get off and transfer to th...

Re: NARA Records Now Available on DVD Media

My only direct dealing with PAC (which I think is called Libraries and Archives of Canada now) was ordering some reprints of two photos (one each on two different occasions). I requested the reprints online and they were received fairly quickly - within a few weeks. The cost was a bit high in my opi...

Re: If the cost of DVDs is fair - some perspective

As John has noted the cost of the equipment and labor does not make it feasible to to sell the DVDs at an a cheap price at this point in time. But to put things into some perspective, I was given a quote by the UK National Archives two years ago on the price of copying the contents of May - December...

Re: German document *transliteration* request

That should be T-78, Roll 850 (not 50) and the document is "Ausbau der Schnellen Brigade West zur 21.Pz.Div."

Mad Dog, thanks for the offer. I tried Photoshopping it but my photoshop skills are pretty limited. I will see what I can do about providing the whole page in a few days.

German document *transliteration* request

I am working on some documents received from NARA in DVD form and some of them are of quite poor quality and reading them is quite a challenge at times. The one I am working on now is AHA Ia(I) Nr. 3515/43 g. Kdos. on T-78, Roll 50. The first one I am having trouble with is the 4th page of this docu...

SS-PK Kriegsberichter Merz, July 1944 in Normandy?

There is a photograph from the BA which is credited to an SS-PK- Kriegsberichter Merz. The info from the BA gives it a date of 4.7.44. I am trying to verify the date and location. I have found information on a Willi Merz who was with Das Reich apparently in early 44, but I am trying to determine his...
