Hey Brian, I do not know where Lublin is in Poland, But I do know where my Great uncle went missing, maybe you will know if it is close by. He was KIA on July 28th, 1944 about 12 kilometers West of Brest-Litovsk (Border of Poland and Byelorussia). His unit (The decimated 459th I.R. and the rest of K...

Brian, What you say about the German war graves commision is not accurate. Yes they do list known graves, absolutely, but they also list some killed, without knowing where there graves are. An example of this is my great uncle Dietrich Schloen, listed as KIA on July 28, 1944, but his body was never ...

251st I.D., 459th I.R. Bundesarchive address
Christian, Thanks, I have already gone top Deutsche Dienstelle (Wast) but this new address for the 251st I.D. at Bundesarchive, where did you get this from, is it a vets organization?, what kind of info might it have? My goal is still to write to someone who served with my great uncle, he was extrem...

Looking for Tessin's Info on 251st I.D., 459th I.R.
Hello, I am trying to locate names of living men from this unit, which was my great uncle's unit . Unfortunately he was killed on July 28th, 1944, after serving 4 years in it as a Feldwebel at the age of 24. The purpose of this is to be able to correspond with them about my uncle and the circumstanc...

From German War graves site, I was able to acquire following info: Otto Jungkunz, Oberscharfuhrer, born July 23, 1892, in Wurzburg, KIA on June 9, 1945 but not known where. On a Norbert Scharf, there are 2 listed: 1 from Breslau, MIA on Jan 23, 1945. Another a Feldwebel, born Oct 31, 1917, KIA in It...

How was it determined who would carry the MP40 schmeisser?
Within a unit such as Das Reich how was it determined who would carry an MP40 Schmeisser. How was it determined who would carry binoculars? Would one expect an Unterscharfuhrer to be carrying an MP40 and binoculars? Thanks in advance, J Buck

Division Das Reich Im Bild (photo lower right pg 237)
Amazingly upon reviewing photos from this book i am 99.9% certain that the man in this photo is my great uncle. This is an unbelievably lucky discovery. Can anyone tell me about this photo, what is black thing siting on his chest?, what gun is next to him?, what rings are those on his hands?, what i...

Hello Mark, Most interesting Division to me by far is Das Reich, because my great uncle served in it from 1940-1945. He 1st served with Kradshutzen battalion then Auksflarungabteilung (Recon) 2 when Kradshutzen was disbanded due to losses. Unfortunately he died in 1971 of cancer, so I could only get...
