Hi,

Thanks Timo.

Helmut, The unit was regarded as a reinforced brigade in terms of strength and organisation at the beginning of Barbarossa but was named SS-Division LSSAH as of 9.5.41 according to Lehmann's books.

Hi, For comparison here is an oob for July 1941. The information is sourced from The Leibstandarte II by Rudolf Lehmann, again it is possible that I have introduced mistakes into it. If anyone can add or correct anything I would appreciate it. SS-Division LSSAH as of 1.7.1941 Division-Stab Divisions...

Hi,

Yes, Crete is an island just off the coast of Greece but the Leibstandarte did not fight there.

Hi,

I don't think the Leibstandarte was ever in Crete or Tobruk, you must be thinking of Greece. This is the only place that the Leibstandarte and the Australians fought, that I am aware of.

Hi, The Australians were well respected by the WAFFEN SS & other German units that fought against them. Do you have any more information about this? reports or quotes from German officers or soldiers? All I have seen are some comments made by Rommel; Here is a quote from "Rommel" by De...

Hi, According to Georg Maier the 1st Generalstabsoffizier of the 6th Panzer Army the order was signed 'Heinrich Himmler'. According to Otto Günsche, Hitler's adjutant, Hitler gave Himmler the task of passing on the order to Sepp Dietrich. Apparently Himmler was supposed to deliver the order in perso...

Hi,

I didn't think '200' existed.

So would the number have been made up for the report then?

Does anyone know the report I mean and whether the other information in it is correct? If it's not where would the information have come from?

Thanks,

John.

Hi,

In The Leibstandarte IV/1 there is a report on the action at Villers-Bocage signed by Dietrich, the report gives the number as '200'.

Where would Dietrich have gotten his information to write the report?

Hi, I dont know how many guns the 5./V. had at that time, however when the heavy battalion was restructured in June 1941 the 5th company, renamed the 3rd company, had 12 5cm guns. I don't have The Leibstandarte II, the first volume only mentions a 5cm pak platoon in the infantry battalions which was...

Hi, Golf 33, the information you have given reflects the how LSSAH was reorganised in early June 1941, before operation Barbarossa and after the Greek campaign. The Leibstandarte I gives the date as around 10.06.1941. At this time a fourth infantrie-bataillon was added, there was also much other reo...
