Re: German armor at Market Garden

I always believed that the 20 Panther sent from Arnhem to Elst were I/SSPR9. Perhaps I read the right books. I think it was in The Bridge Too Far that it said they crossed the river over an engineer bridge upstream from Arnhem. Whatever happened later, it made military sense to do so rather than eng...

Re: " Combat worth " definition of panzer division

Hi Vasil,

The divisions rated themselves on all reports. I can't remember when it started without looking at 100's of monthly returns to find the earliest. Probably mid 1944.

Re: Question on 4. Pz division 's SP gun and tank destroyer

Well, I can certainly add to the confusion. Establishment of 61 should be 43 Marder for PzJgAbt. 49 (PD43) and 18 SP artillery for II/PzAR103. Coy/Bttry figures were (incl. Grille):- 9/PGR12 7 Grille 9/PGR33 7 Grille 4/PzAR103 5 W 5/PzAR103 5 W 6/PzAR103 7 H Note beside says 12 W and 10 H. Diffs. ma...

Re: " Combat worth " definition of panzer division

Yes, there were combat morale ratings (Kampfwert)

I = Unlimited offensive capability

II = Unlimited defensive capability

III = Limited defensive capability

IV = Burnt out

I think that was it and what you were asking.

It's at BAMA Freiburg. Meldung and Kriegsgliederung are PP 29 and 31 of 25PD Book. It's probably at IWM London too.

Re: 242 Inf Div, 719 Inf Div, 189 Inf Div, 6 FJD June '44

Hi Roger, Thats what i tought too, the division did not received a third Regiment, this would make it a normal I.D., they kept the 723 and the 743. Greetings Jack. I wrote an additional bit to my Post but it does'nt seem to be there now. 719 was still existing 12th April 1945. LXXXIX Corps reserve ...

719 Static appears to have remained as 'static'. GOC from 16th December 1944 was Major General Gaede. He was captured 30th March 1945, presumably with his Division. 719 Static is not on the OKW Order of Battle of 12th April 1945.

Re: KG-Einem/24th Pz Div early Jan'45

Just a few random bits and pieces: 17 Pz.Jg.IV intended for 24 Pz.Div were confiscated in Strasburg on 20 Jan by 5 Coy, Pz.R.25, 7 Pz.Div, and deployed for an attack towards Deutsch-Eylau. The vehicles were so new, the guns hadn't been fired in and the crews had to find white paint to apply some im...

Re: KG-Einem/24th Pz Div early Jan'45

I don't think I can explain the 132 with any certitude. Until November '44 the establishments were 44 Stug III for 2 Coys. of III/PR24, 54 Panzer IV, 44 for 2 Coys., 5 for Recce Plat. Staff Coy. III/PR24 and 5 for Regt. Recce Plat. PR24. In November changed to 132 Panzer IV. Stug III's no longer fig...

Re: 2.Panzer-Division / Panzeraufklärungs-Abteilung 2

They did not go by battalions, KStN went by companies etc. 2PD was reformed as PD43 (KStN 1Nov43) and was more or less reorganized as PD 44 (KstN 1Apr44) during June. Hope my memory is sound, otherwise Piet or Hans or both will tear me to shreds, chuckle. I have not checked my sources, all original ...

Re: 103 Pz Bde Dec 1944

Hello I now have the Gliederungsbild Roger was referring to. It could indeed be that the three Pz.Jg.Kp Bock, Pankow and Lang were at the basis of the II./Pz.Rgt 2 as also 7./Pz.Rgt was having one Panzerjäger 38. The other two Kompanien were numbered 1. and 2./Pz.Rgt. 2 and equipped with Panzerjäge...
