What makes you think that the black triangle within red triangle symbol was not carried on from earlier 183.ID ? Would I be wrong to think most converted VGDs did not keep old ID divisional signs. I will admit, it is an interesting subject.

It is cited from H.Schaufler, Panzer an der Weichsel in the new book, Battlegroung Prussia by P.Buttar, as serving under 4.Panzerdivision. Perhaps there is more info in the Schaufler book.
