Re: Anti-guerilla operations in Balkans

There is a book about a Volksdeutsh (Saxon from Transylvania if I remember correctly) conscripted into the 7th SS called "Balkan Nightmare" by Anna Wittman that is a pretty good read from the small vision of an ordinary soldier. Sorry I can't be more accurate but the book is packed away ri...

Re: Out-of-print book updates

To those that have commented on "Moscow Tram Stop". I just finished reading it last night. I did a note on the memories thread giving a few thoughts on it. To summarize...one of the very best books of this style that I have ever read. Well worth the wait and money that it took to get a cop...

Re: German World War II Memoires and Diaries

I just finished "Moscow Tram Stop" and I must say it was worth ever cent I paid for it. Far and away one of the bet of its kind that I have read. Very well written and very intense. 800 in the battalion on June 22, 1941. By Spring of 1942 less than 90 of the original were still there. Dr H...

Re: German World War II Memoires and Diaries

I got a copy of "Moscow Tram Stop" for $60 from using search engine. English copy, came from a German book dealer. Unbelievable after all these years of hunting to get a copy and at that price. Earlier this year I got a paperback copy of "Invisible Flag". Darn I am on a roll. Try...

Re: Looking for:

Sniper, just had a great stroke of luck. I found Moscow Tram Stop on a book search engine. I purchased the hardcover for $60 (was from German dealer, but English edition). That included shipping also. Just got it today and have already started it. After all these years of checking and searching, it ...

Re: German Military Books For Sale

I still have all three books you asked about. "Comrdes To The End" is a written history of the "Der Fuehrer" Regiment of the 2nd SS 'Das Reich" Division. "To The Bitter End" is Rolf Heinze's account of Army Group Northern Ukraine, Army Group Mitte, and Army Group A...

Re: Need some input

My two cents...you will be doing yourself an injustice if you don't read Doug's HG. If you are really interested in not only the how, where, but in making the whole disaster come to life, the feeling of the participants, the horror of what went on that shows so nearly on a map, you need to read this...

Re: Review: Goodbye Transylvania

Another book along the same lines is "Balkan Nightmare." About a Transylvania Saxon conscripted into the Waffen-SS. He was assigned to 7th SS "Prinz Eugen". Was a good read, but I must question the fact that the author repeatedly states he never witnessed any atrocities committed...
