Re: Hermann Göring PzD

I have not heard of "Against The Odds" before. Always interested in German memoirs. Did a book search and found only one copy...$479 USD!! Guess I will put this on my search list for future reference. Thanks for the heads up on this book.

Re: cleaning out files

What I have on the photo is that it is a 5th SS Wiking Panther operating with an unidentified Heer grenadier unit in Poland, 1944. I do not know that this is entirely confirmed. Just what I had down when I downloaded the pic several years ago.

Re: What do you read at the moment?

"Scars of Honor" - save your money, look for it at a second hand book store. Strictly my opinion.

"There Stood A Soldier"

OK, I hope this thread goes better than the last one I started. "There Stood A Soldier" by P. S. Buttar - the author firmly wrote and published this book as a fiction novel. :D The book follows two groups of soldiers up to and through the Battle of Stalingrad. One group is German, ...

Re: Which one to get?

I would say "Adventures In My Youth". It gets more in depth which based on your reviews and comments, I think you will enjoy the most. Of course you can always go with the cheaper of the two. Then put the difference between the two back as the base for building up your funds to purchase th...

Re: Which one to get?

Sniper, I have both and can honestly say you can't go wrong with either selection. Personally, I would go ahead an order both. That being said: Twlight of the Gods - covers a compact time period right at the chaotic end of the war. Reads almost like a good fiction work. Does a lot of day to day acti...

Very good indeed. Thank you for sharing this with us. Good insight to what may be one of the most often overlooked operations of the Western front. Takes some of the shine off Patton's crown.

Honor Denied: The Combat Memoirs of SS Radio Operator

Author is Karl Metzger. Has anyone read this book that would give a review or commentary on it?

Veteran of #rd SS Totenkopf, Werner Volkner, has put together a very enjoyable book to read. Has an easy style. Flows well. Gives one a little of the feeling the author had going thru the war. He relates the war as it happened in his own area of vision. He does not try to find deep meaning to it all...

I'll be very interested to see this book. Always interested to see good, new books on Eastern Front. With that said, I will have to add that Doug Nash set the bar so high with "Hell's Gate", that it will be a very difficult and quite likely, unfair comparison between the two. Doig's book i...
