Re: Depends on Country

The side used by the country they were in was used. Best regards, Ron Klages What about II US Corps under 1st British Army in Tunisia, or X British Corps under 5th US Army in Italy, etc.? The Corps would have it own designated roads, but what happens when Army level support units come trundling dow...

Enrico, The casualty figures were for only 4th Indian Division. I read through the chapter for 5th Indian Division as well (the same book), but could not find any similar casualty reference. Nor could I find any casualty numbers for the Sudan Defence Force, or the African Colonial Divisions involved...

According to Vol.8 (Part 1) of British Armies in WW2: An Organisational History (Hughes, et al), 4th Indian Division "had taken 3,272 casualties during the campaign in Sudan and Eritrea". Sorry, that's all I could find.

According to Joslen, the 2nd Support Group (of which the 1st THR was a part) left the UK on 15/Nov/40, and arrived in Egypt 1/Jan/41. The THR (along with the London Rifle Brigade) was later incorporated into the Rifle Brigade, although I am uncertain of the 1st THR's specific fate.

Dave, Unfourtunately armoured regiments in North-Africa rarely converted to new equipment overnight (except with the advent of Shermans in mid-43). Equipment in 40-42 was whatever was available. However, here are tank holdings for the 3rd Hussars on as many dates as I can find: Oct 1940 (1st Armd Bd...

At first. I tried to compile a OOB for Switzerland in WW2 some time ago. If you stay with the regular army and their wartime organization, no problem. But if you go deeper just a little, there is a swamp of idependent Homedefence-Companys. The more you look, the more you find. Arne, Are you willing...

2. LW Jaeger Bn (Anzio)

I have an OOB that shows this unit arriving at the Anzio bridgehead in Jan/44. Can anyone provide any information (organisation, date of arrival, HQ attachment) for this unit if it did indeed exist?

Anyone heard from Jason lately?

I've made repeated attempts to contact Jason since the summer, but still no success. His last posting on the forum is listed as Nov 25. Oddly, a posting I made a week or two ago seeking to contact Jason seems to have disappeared from this forum section.

Could "Aufklaerungs stabs-Kompanie" be referring to the headquarters company of a normal heeres recon. battalion? I don't really know the correct abbreviation for this one. I thought of this, but why would it be mentioned seperately? The 'Aufklr. St.' in the OOB is attached only to the mo...
