Horrido (jo Ho), quite symply is a well: what? Greeting, or kind of a "battle cry" (it is not aggressive) of german hunters. So I suppose every german soldier familiar with the traditions of hunters would have used it to either encourage his comrades or mark a victory (kill)regardless of w...

Interesting question. Tradition would dictate Panzergrenadier. But I think I would have gone for Fallschirmjäger. Glad my choices were accountant or marketer ;-) (I chose marketer of course)

Graf Zeppelin

Guten Abend everybody. Being truly an army man, I stumbled in here by chance and what an interesting reading this is! Two points 1. the main reason for building GZ, I think, was the fact that every other major navy had carriers - so they just couldn't resist, even without sound "carrier doctrin...

Without seeing exactly what you are refering at: Rubber band to mount leaves, little branches etc. for camouflage.Later replaced by a mesh for better stability. Just a guess.

M1 Carbine

Hello all, I am just curious if you also think the M1 Carbine was pretty unnecessary, given that there were the Garand and Sub machine guns like Thompson and Grease Gun. I mean,if I had the choice, I would always go for a real rifle or for an automatic weapon.. So what was the reason to introduce th...

Why not trade BAR for Bren MG

To my understanding the Bren was a much better SAW than the BAR.
Were there no plans to just use the best weapon out of their armory for all armies? Means Brens for the US and M1 Garand for the British.
There might be more examples. Just curious.

I already gave the answer above. I talked to veterans from SS AA 1 who used this weapon in the Ardennes and very much disliked it. They were out of ammo way to soon The men equipped with this weapon were out of ammo after one day, due to its high rate of fire and poor ammo supplies at this late sta...

I think german is harder. I can speak, read and write it but I've never understood the grammer rules completely. In my Opinion english is the easiest language to learn. It's the easiest to start with, but becomes harder and harder the more you try to be - what -perfect? German is hard in the beginn...

Re: Sondercommando Dirlwanger

In 1940 when Hitler directed the formation of a unit based on poachers, the call went out to all state/county prosecutors to identify them. French Maclean in "The Cruel Hunters" reports that three goups of poachers were identified, totaling approximately 1250 convicted poachers serving ti...

...imagine Saddam had some first rate SS- or Fallschirmjäger Divisions.
How would combat look like then?
