suicide, especially in this case, seems like a waste to me. I'm sorry, but I just don't see the glory in it. It may be important for historical accuracy, but really, what difference does it make to feel better that it was not a Bolshevik bomb that killed Westernhagen but his own hand? Honor is menti...

Wolfgang? I think his brothers were Horst and Hasso. I have read several sources (including Agte) that mention alleged homosexuality caused fist his forced sterilization and eventual suicide. I believe the other brother was in the Polizei Division and was killed in Russia. I know that they all share...

Annelie, I'm with you! The "details" I look for in books like these are not strategies and battle plans-the bigger books tell those facts. I meant it would have been interesting to know a little about where Altner came from and perhaps his post-war years. Also, if he was ever able to posti...

Thank you,

I'm told that the Munster in question is near Hamburg. True? Is it off or near the A2 autobahn?

Museum at Seelow

Hi, does anyone know if the military museum at Seelow has been updated and if there are others in the area around Berlin? Last time I visited it a few years back, it was still very "Soviet" in orientation: only Russian vehicles and the usual "thanks to the Russians for raping-er, libe...

Military or Panzer Museums in Germany

I'll be in Germany in mid-April and was wondering if anyone can tell me if the Munster museum is worth the visit. I seem to remember from my Army days that there is another site in Sinsheim (near Frankfurt, I think). Does anyone have info on these or other sites, Especially in the Berlin, Duesseldor...

Perhaps a dumb question, Enrico, bit are you related? How? PS For what it is worth, I located Wener Molders' grave at the Invalidenfriedhof in Berlin, at one time their Arlington, now forgotten and in disrepair. Very interesting fo those who want to locate the resting places of some of Germany's for...

Please, please, enough with the revisionist history regarding the German/Polish questions. The territories east of the Oder-Neisse and Sudetenland share a mixed history, but for the most part these areas had a history and culture bound to Germany since the Middle Ages. While Danzig/Gdansk may have b...

Altner's book Berlin Dance of Death suggests that "Seydlitz Troops" as the Germans called them (named after General von Seydlitz, the highest ranking POW in the Comittee to Free Germany) were committed to battle and describes fighting against them on the Oder Front in March/April '45. He s...

While I find Reynolds' books generally interesting, this one definately wore on me as it read like a bunch of daily after-action reports. I don't mean to knock Reynolds-he obviously knows his stuff, but is it really THAT important to know that in some battle in some place everyone else has it wrong ...

Berlin Dance of Deathe by Altner/LeTisser

Gripping first-hand account if a bit light on details. Also of special interest to me because my grandmother survived the Berlin battle and now lives in the neighborhoods Altner fought in. Anyone have an opinion on this?

BTW Newbie,

his wife Sigurd moved back to Bavaria and died 3 years after Peiper in 1979. They, along with Peiper's father and 2 brothers Horst and Hasso, share a family grave in the church cemetary in Schondorf am Ammersee, a small village near Munich. I've been there--its not difficult to find.

Jez, the fact that his son has been interviewed and contributed personal family photos to several books about his father tells me that he is not uncomfortable with his privacy. I am not a stalker, I am just interested (as are others) in knowing if Peiper has lineage and their thoughts on their famou...
