Re: 6th Panzer Grenadier Regiment

Thanks Jerry, as I suspected, a case of mistaken identity. All the best.

Re: 6th Panzer Grenadier Regiment

Hi I am researching Operation Market Garden. One of my sources refers to being interrogated by men from 6th Panzer Grenadier Regiment. Was this unit ever near Arnhem? It appears to have been part of 7 Panzer Div. I suspect confusion with 9 SS Panzer Div. Reposting this from myn old Feldgrau account ...

Re: Oflag staff

I can't find a reference to Oflag IX A/Z in Wiki, but my information is based on data compiled for the Allies after the end of the War and diaries of men in both camps,

Re: Oflag staff

There was a prison camp in the same buildings in Rotenburg from October 1939 till March 1945. It was A/Z rather than C from mid-1942, presumably when it housed British and Commonwealth men for the first time. The last commandant was Oberstleutnant R Brix. The last commandant of Oflag IX A/H was Ober...

'Political Officer' & 'Welfare Officer' Oflag

The diary of a Senior British Officer in an Oflag includes a list of the German staff. One is a Leutnant, described in quotes as Political Officer. Another Leutnant is described as Welfare Officer, again in quotes. Can anyone throw light on what roles these men performed?

'Das Stalag IX C Bad Sulza', Ihling, Horst, 2000

Can anyone suggest how I could get a copy of this book? my usual second hand book sites have failed me, as has a general search on the net. It is included in the bibliography of Willy Schilling's historical guide to Thuringia.

Many thanks in advance

501st Infantry Regiment - Potsdam

I am trying to find anything about this unit, but in particular did it see active service and if so where?

An officer in the regiment, Rudolf Carl Otto Brix was promoted to Oberstleutnant in 1942 and appointed commandant of Oflag IX A/Z in 1944.

Thanks in advance

Re: Oflags for non-British POWs

Yes that is. Thank you. Perhaps the best list of camps that I have come across is - Mattiello, G and Vogt W, 'Deutsche Kriegsgefangenen– und Internierten enrichtungen 1939–1945', Vogt, Koblenz.

Oflags for non-British POWs

I am researching the two Oflags that held British POWs, Oflag IX A/H and A/Z, but have come across occasional references to Oflag IX B and Oflag IX C, can anyone point me at a good source of information regarding the German POW system for non British and American prisoners? I am particular keen to l...

Re: Oflag staff

Thanks Leo, that is helpful. Interestingly Oflag IX A/H has an Oberst as the senior officer of the 2 Oflags. He is also the Commandant of A/H with its two compounds. The Commandant of the sub camp, A/Z, is an Oberstleutnant from June 1944, but before that it is a Major. The Oberstleutnant was the de...

Oflag staff

I am researching Oflags IX A/H and IX A/Z. Am I right in presuming that though the guard was provided by Landesschützenbataillon 631 the Commandant, Abwehr officer and other specialists would not have come from this unit and that they would have come under the commnad of the headquarters of the Wehr...

Re: Map set order

Thank you that's very good news. I never get replies if I email Jason direct but only via the forum. Perhaps a direct email address would be better? Like you I hate pointing fingers by bringing this up in the full glare of the day.
