Re: SS-Division "Nordland"

Hans, I just finished reading Tieke's 'Tragedy of the faithful'l. It appears that I./ Norge and I./Danmark were fighting with 5. SS Wiking. These units whereabouts are not documented in the book. Furthermore Tieke writes that division units were staying in the vicinity of III. SS Corps, so not in th...

I'm sorry to dissapoint you, but the stamps shown are not worth much. They're not worth more than a few dollars as a lot. These stamps can be found in every starting collection. Furthermore the stamps are damaged (lost perforation and corners) which doesn't add to it all. My suggestion is that you k...

The Dutch copy of Perry Pierik's From Leningrad to Berlin mentions two newspaper articles concerning Korean war volunteers - Trouw 26-06-1968: Leidde oud-SS'er onderofficieren op? (Did a former SS member train noncom? - Trouw 28-06-1968: Defensie; oud SS'ers konden na de oorlog naar Korea (DoD; form...

Good OoB ? Take this : http://www.diedeutschewehrmacht.de/9%20armee.htm And for the fights between Oder and Berlin I would recommend : Wilhelm Tieke "Das Ende zwischen Oder und Elbe - Der Kampf um Berlin" , which contains plenty of detail ! About the fate of LVI.PzKps this link might be i...

And again another point for further research. It appears to be very difficult to built up a good OoB for 9. Army. But thats' the fun of it.

Does your book mention anything of rebuilding the bataillion after 28th february and its' OoB?

Thanks for the info Krollspell.

The information I have is as follows. At the end of the war these paratroops were enlisted in 25. Fallschirmjäger regiment, part of the 9. Fallschirmjäger Division. The regiment consisted of 3 Abteilungen of which the second was formed of men from the 'Brandenburg' Division. 9. FJD was part of LVI P...

My suggestion is that you reed Beevor about Nordlands history in Berlin. In short: On 18th april '45 Nordland and 23rd SS Nederland were called for help to stem Zjukovs advance at Wriezen. Certainly Nordlands' CO was reluctant to do so. After the breaktrough at Wriezen Nordland was locked between 1s...

Article by Theodor Busse

Hi, I'm looking for an article written by the former CO of the 9th Armee Theodor Busse. It's called 'Die letzte schlacht der 9. Armee'. It was published in 1955 in Wehrwissenschaftliche Rundschau pages 145-168. If there is anyone out there who is able to make a copy of that for me, I'd be very much ...

Edelweiss wrote: The overriding point remains that Germany was no more ready for war than either Great Britain or France in 1939. Taylor concludes that: "In considering German armament we escape the mystic regions of Hitler's psychology and find the answer in the realm of fact. The answer is cl...

As I don't know the book by Taylor it is difficult to give a well founded reply. But as a reaction based on the one sentence you wrote I would say this doesn't sound realistic. I base this short reaction on a book published here in the Netherlands which describes a lot of dark theories influencing H...

OK than I'll give my continental view. The appeasement policy drove us into WW2. Chamberlain (if he didn't) should have read Mein Kampf (knowing your opponent). Because England nor France nor whatever country stood up to Hitler he was bolstered in his idea of invulnerability. He wrote down all of hi...

Sid, Correct me if I'm wrong. As I was thaught in school it was and has always been in England's interest to fight the largest power on the continent. As you are saying also. Does this not imply that the appeasement policy was not in Englands interest? Certainly since 1871 Germany was and is the dom...
