Info needed for painting

Hello I am preparing to create an oil painting of a Stuka dive-bombing. Would someone mind posting a picture or illustration of a Stuka pilot in full gear for me as reference? I know it varied from season to season, I'm not particular about which uniform. In addition, this is probably difficult to f...

A whole set - arbeitsbuch, letter, ahnenpass

When I was traveling in Germany this summer I stopped at an outdoor flea-market and an old man manning a table saw me looking at some old postcards and then asked me "do you like historical items?". I nodded and he proceeded to pull out a large case from under his table, to the obvious disapproval o...

Re: Rare & Interesting Sniper Training Video

I've read Allerberger's book as well, but I guess I am forgetting how he referred to the video. Can you remind me?

Rare & Interesting Sniper Training Video

I came across this recently posted at LiveLeak and thought I'd share it, as I assume most of you haven't seen it before. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.

Yes, these pictures are greatly helpful, thanks so much. There were more useful ones in your collection, too! Your collection is fantastic. As an aside, I'm confused as to when Gebirgsjaeger men did and did not wear steel helmets. In most of the photos they just wear caps, did they have helmets alon...

photo request

I've combed the net looking for a photo, but for the life of me I can't find one, so I need your help. I need a photo of a wehrmacht soldier in a seated position, preferrably with him facing the camera. If you know of anything like that, I would greatly appreciate you posting it or linking me to it....

Can someone explain why these Finns have painted this on their helmets? I'm very curious about it.

Did the Germans wear their dog tags around their neck? If so, was the necklace part taken from the body or left with the body...

Dog Tags question

I'm trying to dig up some information to aid me in research before I begin a painting, which I of course want to reflect historical accuracy where at all possible. I need to know: If a German soldier fell in battle and his body was recovered, what would become of his dog tags? Is it plausible that t...

German Dog Tag Question

Pardon me for what is novice question.

Say a German soldier fell in battle and his fellows recovered his body for proper burial, what would typically become of his dog tags? Would they be buried with him, sent to his family, kept by a comrade, kept by a governmental records office?

I'd like to read a book about, and hopefully written by a German night-fighter pilot. I watched a documentary about these guys which interviewed a few of them, it was interesting and very moving. Does anyone know if such a book exists?

I'm glad to know of some more good books that I can add to my ever-growing waiting list. I definitely agree about Forgotten Soldier, it's in my top ten of all books, and in my top 3 war memoirs. I'll mention a book because I never hear anyone talking about it. Nazi Seizure of Power by William Allen....

Thanks for your compliments and encouragement, it means a lot to me. I wonder the same thing, and that's why painting them was an interesting and emotional experience. From the memoirs I've read of men on the Russian front, I imagine that these two were hoping that their men would spring on a surpri...

Haha. Well, while that was the origin of Amarillo's existence, it has since gone on to serve some other functions.
