A good way is to use a blacklight, synthetic fibres will show up brightly under this light, so too will fibres that have been washed in modern detergents. If its old and unwashed it shouldnt glow. A good start.

Thanks ratdog, The head and handle of the grenade are stamped with waffenampts and codes etc dated 1939, I dont think its a fake, for the price who would go to all that trouble to sell it for only $50!! I Think Im gonna risk it!

Ill get sniffing straight away, thanks heidemann, the colour worried me but the more I look at the pic the more nice and antiquey I think it looks. Ive been offered it by someone who dosent know much about militaria for $50, worth a shot :)

I have been offered this grenade for sale, does it look genine? What model is it? And what would be a reasonable price to pay?

I agree totally, it also says earing the swastika was considered an honour, so it could be for a volunteer force, not necessarily the osttruppen. There was the British Free Corps, Asian regiments etc..

No its definately vintage, from a vets estate (British Army) who served in Italy and was captured. Does not glow under backlight either. Odd....
