Re: Retreat from Monte Cassino

That's an interesting point of view but after the Battle of Monte Cassino and the retreat and later the capture of Rome, the Germans made a very strong resistance with the Gustav line.

The Siege of Küstrin

This one look really interesting for those fascinated by late Battle in Germany in 1945.The unexpected arrival of Soviet troops at the end of January 1945 at the ancient fortress and garrison town of Kustrin came as a tremendous shock to the German High Command. The Red Army needed the vital road an...

Re: Luftwaffe's decline

If Galland would been in charge of the Luftwaffe instead of Göring, a lot of tactic and strategy would have been different for the better for Germany.

Re: Luftwaffe's decline

I would say not until the last major Luftwaffe Operation in the beginning of january 1945. Operation Bodenplatte was a very short-term success but a long-term failure, for while Allied losses were soon made up, lost Luftwaffe planes and Airmen were irreplaceable, leaving the Luftwaffe weaker than ev...

Re: Luftwaffe War Crimes

There is also the Bombing of the Polish town Wielun on september 1 1939, It is widely acknowledged that there were no military or industrial targets in the area, and killed approximately 1,200 civilians, about 8% of the town's population of 15,000. Approximately 75% of all the buildings in Wieluń we...

Re: Blitzkrieg Unleashed: Poland 1939

I have read it and I highly recommended to everybody interesting about the Polish campaign. The book is great because it is like a historic novel and at the same time you have great accounts of the several Battles during that campaign. You will learn a lot of new stuff like the fact that Hans Frank ...

Re: Targul Frumos/Iassi Offensive

Colonel Glanzt work ''Red Storm Over The Balkans'' about the failed Soviet invasion of Romania in the spring of 1944 is a must read to learn a lot about that Eastern Front forgotten Battle.

Re: Blitzkrieg Unleashed: Poland 1939

I have just started to read it, why in almost every book including this one there is an explanation of the events before the actual Polish campaign, is it for the casual reader? I am interested in the events in the Polish Campaign not before, that's my criticism but maybe you have no choice Richard?...

Re: General of Gebirgsjäger.

Great picture of General Hubert Lanz. He was pretty outstanding on the Eatern Front. In June 1941, he led his division in the invasion of the Soviet Union. On 30 June, his division conquered Lvov. There, the Germans discovered several thousand bodies of prisoners who had been executed by the NKVD, a...
