To be in Kriegsmarine you need to enlist to start with. The Chinese prisoners along with Hindus and Blacks were used for different duties by members of Atlantis. The Hindus were made to scrub the deck and few chinese were used as cooks and served the meals. I am currently reading the memuars of the ...

Hi Sid, Ruthenia/Carpatho-Ukraine became part of the Ukrainian SSR even before there was a Communist government in Czechoslovakia, so I fail to see where these "Communist myths" come in. - I knew this question is gonna come up. While in Ukraine, all carpathian groups such as Lemko's, Boyko...

The whole subject of Carpatho-Ukraine is very obscure, however I can recommend two books: 1. prof. Peter G. Stercho, "The Carpatho-Ukrainian Republic - a contribution to the history of the Carpatho-Ukrainian struggle for greedom, 1919-1939", Shevchenko Scientific Society, Toronto, 1965. 2....

What kind of BS is this? Am surprised to see that when everyone accepted Rusyns to be part of Ukrainian nation, Czechs are still pursuing the old communist myths. And what Rusyns? They conceived that without Czechoslovakian protection had no chance to survive, and had 2 possibilities: A) stay home a...

I can clear this up. Term "Greeco-catholic" means the religious denomination and not nationality. Unlike Roman Catholics who follow Gregorian calendar, Greek-Catholics follow the Julian calendar as their traditions and sermon is based on Othodox/Byzantine faith.

It seems much more likely that after the war some Ukrainians, rather than be repatriated to a now Soviet Galicia, chose to "masquerade" as Poles so that they could stay in the West. - This question has been discussed already. As Sid correctly pointed out - those who joined Anders were Ukr...

Hello Sid:

The unit stationed in Denmark was actually Ukrainian (UVV). In Spring of 1945 it was handed over to Ukrainian National Army.

Litauer-Bataillon = 4. Fallschirmjäger-Division Ost-Kompanie = 1. Fallschirmjäger-Division - Any info on those two units? I know that there were flying units created from Latvians, Estonains and ROA, but never heard of Lithuanian or Ost paratroopers? Or does this mean, they were only Hiwis in those ...

My research indicates that UPA had in its use some heavy artillery, few tanks and even its own planes (sic!). The tanks were used on individual cases, they were usually captured soviet tanks (about 3-4 T-34's and one heavy S-25, with five turrets). In one instance (early 46) a whole panzer column wa...

Mike is right. Division did have Mp-44. In my research I read of an account that the heavy artillery troops were equipped with Mp-44 in the early stages of battle of Brody, but soon had to give them up due to lack of ammo. Pioneers were also equipped with them. Here's a pic from my site (the very la...
