Yes, the 105 was not as good as the 75 in the AT role. The 105 did have limited HEAT ammo that helped. It should be noted that the Stug Bgds were originaly part of the artillery branch and were intended to lend fire support to infantry. That may explain the rationale for the presence of 105s. Also, if it incorporated the 1027 Rgt, what was its organization? Did it have three inf/PG regiments then?

I had not heard of StuGIIIs involved in that attack, but I did read of Marders used in the attack. The 709th had Marders in its OOB.
Unfortunately I cannot recall the source and don't have the reference available so I cannot verify right now.
