Mikko, they HAD training as paras (to jump from air) but they WERE used as infantry. I think it was because lack of usual infantry. But paras had too little artillery so losses were so great.

It is very difficult question. And with my poor English it is very difficult to explain.
To Soviet airborne units was said that they were "shoking". But soldiers of these units were usual men with usual weapons. So in any battle success was depend of strongness one of sides.

In Winter War 201, 204, 214 Soviet Airborne Brigades fought.
Particularly 204 Br fought for Maksiman-saari 6 March 1940.
201 Br fought for Lunkulan-saari 12 March 1940 (its first battle in the war).

Andreas gave exellent answer. Only add - there were several para drops in Manchuria in August 1945.

Were thre Greek volunteers in Wermacht or Waffen SS?
If yes - how many?
