Decorations

I don't know if this belongs here but... Talking with my grandfather about WWII, he indicated that he had received decorations but they were stripped from him when he was captured. Now I am wondering, in light of the long forgotten regime, has Germany reversed it's decision on this and if so how do ...

Yeah, but when your in it, you don't see the world or historical view, you see your closed in tunneled view. Looking on it now, I see it from a different perspective. I still wonder if we did any good and as far as the Canadian Forces goes, a whole regiment was disbanded because of their actions. Bu...

The reason I am so interested is because everyone has this idea that Germans were evil, I'll admit from all the accounts, it does seem that way. I think I have always disassociated my grandfather from this, even though he fought for Germany. So I am interested in seeing how the general person in the...

Now the film "Untergang" is that the same as "der Untergang" about the last days of Hitler? If it is not do you have more details on it? ISBN number or something that I could find it? Thanks a lot.

I guess I should add that I am interested in the human aspect of it, not necessarily about the tactics or the campaigns, but how the members felt. I guess the dirty aspect of it all.

Movies

I was wondering what the opinions were on the movie "Stalingrad" as to the authenticity of the depiction of events at that time? The uniforms seemed authentic at least. Are there any other German war movies that are somewhat accurate as well? I enjoy watching and learning, especially from ...

Both of you thank you very much for the info, I appreciate the link. I realize that is just conjecture about the rank. I am interested in getting facts which is why I am glad you gave me a link. I know he had several medals and I was interested in that aspect as well; as I am in the military with se...

Another Identification, Please

So I went through your website Christoph and I have made some "guesses" for this one, but once again, would like your opinion? There's no substitute for good old experience. It is funny because I am in the military now, and our structure no where nears this kind of structure. We have units...

Website Link

How do you put a website link on your profile? I do not seem to have the option. Another off topic, I think this is a great site and I plan to use it so I started a monthly donation. So does that mean my title changes to patron as well? or is it just based on the amount of posts? Not really importan...

Is there a couple of links where I can learn more about his unit? He was born in Little Prussia so that makes sense?

and I thank you very much for your swift and helpful response. I am in your debt.

Identify Component and Unit

I am trying to find information on my grandfather and all I have is this picture. Unfortunately knowing what unit and component he served with would be helpful and I can't tell. I was hoping someone would be able to help identify this for me. As I do not have a lot of experience in determining this....
