I would say simply "clerk" for Kaufmann. "Clerk" seems to be the nearest translation. Clerk sounds correct. Although Kaufmann can also mean businessman or merchandiser. It's kind of a general term I think. And I think he was initially an apprentice clerk or businessman. The hand...
